Recommendations of things to do Budapest?

Just booked Budapest for partners 40th birthday in February. He’s always wanted to go. Anyone been & would recommend some ‘must do’s’?

Like to do a thermal bath & I like the sound of a river cruise possibly of an evening to include dinner. Has anyone done these?

It’s a fabulous city - lots of cycling tours if that’s your thing instead of walking. Boat trip worth booking in advance but might be quieter in February. The castle district was the only bit we found very crowded, everywhere else was very chill 😄🥰.

Fisherman's Bastion gets another vote from me - so pretty, the architecture is almost Disney like.

I was going to start my own thread when I found this recent one which answered some of my questions.
How long do people recommend going for?

I’ve booked Saturday-Tuesday I’m hoping this is enough time (I’ve had to book during Feb half term as I work in a school)

@JC03745 if you can go for at least 4-5 days I would. As I said up thread, we could easily have spent a week there. It is a bit like saying how long to go to London for. If you want to just tick off the big 5-10 attractions then fine, but there's a lot more to do and see if you can make the time.

@Tinks15 how was your trip and itinerary? I’m also planning a city break for DH’s 40th and would love some tips! We only have Sat to Mon though.

@Nettyhugs we had a great trip thank you it really was fab!
We did a hell of a lot in the days we were there & walked A LOT of miles!
I loved it all tbh but my favourites & what I’d particularly recommend is; Fisherman’s bastion, Buda Castle, St Stephen’s bastilia. River cruise on the Danube but do it in the evening when everything is lit up…it’s stunning 🤩
The thermal baths was fab & we upgraded to the spa as a special treat which we loved. Appreciate you might not have time for this but if you get a chance I’d say do it if that’s your type of thing!
The city is so easy to get around as I said we walked a lot but we did also get the underground & buses & all were very easy to use. Just need to get your ticket validated (a little machine that just stamps your ticket).
Food was all very very good we went traditional Hungarian every evening big hearty portions & was yum! Would particularly recommend Porc es Prezli restaurant the food was great, service fantastic & also has live musicians whilst eating.

Overall we had a brilliant time & would highly recommend to anyone visiting it’s a brilliant city. Hope you have an amazing time whenever you are due to go please report back & let us know how it was.

If you have any questions or want anymore info just PM me 🙂

Hi @Tinks15if you’re still around, did you booked the spa package with the massage at szechenyi baths? I’ve just booked for later next month wondered how you found it?
