Clothes for flight from cold to hot!

Flying from the UK In Kate October to the Maldives, currently 31 degrees.

It's a 10.5 hour flight so comfort is needed.

Any ideas on what I should wear. Will lack a linen dress in my hand luggage to change into for arrival.

You’ll definitely need a brolly heading to the Maldives in one of the transition months!

Id recommend taking something light to change into before you land though, it will be 30 degrees and very humid. Also take insect repellent as the little blighters love to hang out at the airport for some reason.

It’s always boiling on long haul flights so hoody/cardi etc. at the airport and tshirt or vest top on the plane. Comfy socks and travel slippers/flip flops for toilet visits, cuffed joggers or leggings not wide legged yoga pants etc. you don’t want stuff dragging on the loo floor 🤢

i always have a change of clothes for Maldives in hand luggage, don’t forget sunglasses, small suncream and sandals. It’s very humid and you will die in your travel clothes.

I wear thermals underneath a maxi dress with a cashmere poncho. Take the thermals off just before you arrive, and the poncho obvs.

Thanks all, some fantastic tips.

The longest flight I have done is to Florida..9 hours.

It's raining now but the forecast shows sun for when we're there !

Rain usually doesn’t last long and it’s still warm when it rains and immediately afterwards. You will have a brilliant time. ☀️

I travel in a short sleeved loose dress and cardigan / fleece. Planes are often colder than you might expect. Leave room in hand luggage to shed the top layers.

Usually yes, but not in the transition months. May and October are the months the monsoon switches from a north easterly direction (good weather) to south westerly direction (rainy). In these two months you get week long storms, days of cloud and rough seas.

OP may be lucky and the Maldives may experience a late or early transition period his year, but I’d honestly be prepared for some unsettled weather.

I always just travel in jeans and trainers and a jumper same as usual. Short time in air-conditioned airport and short time usually in air-conditioned transport to hotel. I'd rather be not freezing my arse off in a long-stay car park at Heathrow at 4am than briefly too warm till I can change at the hotel to bother worrying about adapting to conditions.

I am often cold on planes and warmth helps me sleep so I tend to wear something that is warm, comfy and just for the flight but can be easily packed away once nearly there. And then a pair of shorts in hand luggage to change into. I wear sandals but bring a warm pair of socks for the plane (have been known to wear socks and sandals for the journey to the airport…)

SmallGreenBabies · 11/10/2024 17:43

I always wear comfy sports leggings, strappy top, trainers, a jumper I can tie round my waist, and a large/lightweight shawl in my hand luggage that doubles as warmth on the plane and shade from the sun on arrival 😎 Have fun!

Thanks @HaveYouSeenRain
I sincerely hope so 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

I've done similar flights cold to hot and back- but double the flight time! I can't comment specifically about the Maldives though.

Layers are your friend. I generally have a T-shirt on with a longer sleeved shirt over the top- which can be taken off on arrival, or if I do get hot on the flight. I generally get cold on a flight though and although they provide a blanket, its often thin. I have a pashmina/scarf which can be used as a neck scarf, rolled up as a pillow and also as an extra shawl on the flight over my shoulders. Last year, I travelled in Dec and bought this down jacket. Its warm enough for getting to the airport, but can fold away into a small pocket in my back pack https://www.marksandspencer.com/feather-and-down-quilted-packaway-puffer-jacket/p/clp60683427?color=BLACK#intid=pid_pg1pip48g4r7c4|prodflag_plp_ts_QP_54

Not your question, but I also take a pair of hotel style, thin slippers. I remove my shoes when I get on board, and take socks off. Put on a pair of thicker socks and use the hotel slippers whenever walking about. There is always dubious fluids on the toilet floors that I don't want on my socks or bare feet! 😬

@JC03745
That type of jacket looks perfect and I like the idea of the slippers.

Leggings, T-shirt and hoodie for the flight and change into shorts for arrival.
