Has anyone travelled to Japan with small baby?

you’re planning a solo holiday with your baby to japan

or travelling out there to visit someone?

There was someone on the Japan Planning Thread recently who has a trip coming up soon with a baby (I think a 1 year old). They might have some tips for you when their trip is over.

I haven't BUT I have travelled to Japan a lot and think I can offer some advice..! Just depends what you want to know. Also, if you have Reddit, you can find threads about just about anything in the Japan Travel community.

It's an amazing place for children and really set up for babies - the babycare changing/feeding rooms in shopping centres and stations are amazing, public toilets usually have a seat you can strap baby into while you're going to the loo, it's incredibly safe and clean and restaurants are also really well set up for children, offering children's cutlery, etc.

I'm truly not trying to be offensive but why would you subject yourself to two 10 hr plus flights - presuming you're in the UK - with a baby ... When there are any number of beautiful and interesting places you could go with a much much shorter flight?

Also, if you're visiting cities, they're incredibly densely populated and busy, the streets are busy, the transport systems are packed and busy.
It's also expensive, particularly in the cities.

I think I'd be going to Italy or Greece! They love kids, relatively short flight, beautiful scenery, nice food ... Get somewhere quiet with a pool and/or beach, plenty of flotation aids and water/sand toys for baby, and relax (?)

The big cities are definitely busy in popular tourist areas.

I disagree with Japan being expensive though. I’d say it’s very cheap compared to most of Europe. It’s the flights that are typically the expensive bit of the trip. The exchange rate is favourable and attractions and eating out are very very affordable compared to the UK and Western Europe.

I moved back to the UK from there a long time ago but it was mostly very expensive.

I was in Greater Tokyo/Tokyo though.

@HazelPlayer Things have definitely changed since then. We were in Tokyo in April and it was very cheap. A main meal in a restaurant with an alcoholic drink each was sometimes as little as £8 per person in okonomiyaki or ramen restaurants. ¥1000 for an okonomiyaki or bowl of noodles and ¥500 for a chu-hai was pretty standard.
