Lapland - what to pack

We are going to Lapland this December - me, DH and 2 DC. I've never been somewhere so far north, and I'm not sure what to wear for travel or to pack. We are going with TUI for 3 nights and they are supposedly providing thermal snow suits and boots. Is anyone done this trip with TUI previously able to advise? How many layers will be needed under snow suits? What did you wear for travel that will be warm enough when we get there without cooking on the way?

I’d recommend getting a good pair of thermal touch screen gloves so that you don’t have to take your gloves off to operate your phone. Also take a pair of waterproof ones for snow related activities!
Thermal socks are hugely important!
We took battery packs for phones because the cold kills the battery quick and used them loads for photos (wasn’t necessary but they’re small so worth taking!).
I got some hand and foot warmers from Tescos, they were great but they get very very hot so don’t put them into shoes or directly onto skin (learned that the hard way!)
Our hotel was full of people in personalised family t-shirts and hoodies, if you’re into that type of thing, it’ll be worth getting them! We put on Christmas jumpers and hats for the gala night, almost everyone was dressed up for that.
We took ski jackets for the plane/coach ride to the hotel. You’re mostly on a bus, but the airports are small so ski jackets for kids are useful for before you get the suits/after you’ve given them back.

@Forgottenmyphone thank you! What did you wear under snow suits? I was thinking thermal vest and leggings with joggers and a jumper, would that be enough?

Yes that's exactly what we wore - Merino base layers and a a fleece or wool jumper.

Agree, a set of thermals and a set of clothes (light jumper and joggers) for under the snowsuit for every day, will be fine. I slept with our window open because the bedroom was so warm, inside is going to be really toasty so layers layers layers!

We took thermal socks, thermal leggings, thermal hats and several base layers - don't get cotton, they need to be made from material that wicks away sweat.

Even more important - snoods, thin inner gloves and waterproof thermal gloves.

I bought all our stuff from the ski section in Decathlon.

Glow sticks to attach to your children's snow suits! All kids look the same in the same snow suits and helmets!!
