Cyprus in November

I am looking for a holiday somewhere warm - not especially hot - in mid to late November. In a relaxing 4 or 5 star hotel. I am drawn to Cyprus. If you’ve been that time of year, was it still warm enough for beach swims, sitting outside, etc? Also recommendations for quiet adult only hotel welcome!

I have to say it isnt my favourite month to go - it gets dark early and you can probably expect some rain. If it rains it's likely to be heavy showers rather than raining all day long. The temps are usually around the low 20s in mid-November, but it can be quite breezy and get cool in the shade. It can also get chilly at night - definitely take something warm.
You will be able to sit outside and on the beach, but maybe not all day every day. The sea will probably be too chilly - it certainly is for me! There were some locals swimming in the sea every morning though. I suppose it depends how hardy you are.
Nice to see a bit of sun though and it will be warmer than UK!

Lots will be shut down too.
I'm with the previous poster..
Think you will be disappointed.
Try a canary island?

We went to Cyprus in early December once. It definitely wasn't swimming weather, in fact the hotel pools were all shut, but it was warm enough to be outside without a coat on. I can't remember the temperatures (it was a long time ago!) but in the photos we're mostly wearing lightish clothing but mainly long sleeves and long trousers rather than shorts and T shirts, no jumpers or coats, so I'm guessing maybe high teens/low 20s.
We enjoyed it. I'm not a sun worshipper and we like doing things like walking and cycling so the weather was ideal. Historical sites etc were still open but a lot of entertainment places weren't, but we didn't mind as wouldn't have gone if they were open. We stayed in Paphos but I can't remember the hotel name sorry.

November isn't too bad. As in my children needed a jumper on the way to school, but not on the way home (7.30 vs early afternoon). Odd bit of rain, not regular.
Most of the tourist stuff was shut, but anything catering to "locals" (by that I mean expats and Cypriots) was open. The large British community means its all rather familiar.

Flights were very cheap in winter (except at Christmas and New Year)

We’ve been in November, family have a villa in Protaras so we usually stay there, and November weather I’d say is more comparable to England’s nice day in early summer. Warm enough to sit outside but not in swimming costumes you would need clothes on, I wouldn’t have swam in the sea as it was too cold for that for me personally, it wasn’t sunbathing weather it was more “nice for a wander about” weather.

And most of the bars/restaurants on the strip were closed so really not much to do but if you are planning on staying in a hotel that’s not a huge issue.

We’ve also done Tenerife in November which was a bit warmer but defo no sea swimming as it’s the Atlantic so very cold!

Thanks all, really helpful. I don’t mind so much if it’s like an early uk summer (I’m in Scotland so used to it being generally cooler) but if lots of places and pools are shut might not have the feel I was hoping for. But then again it should be quite peaceful and definitely warmer than here. Will have a ponder and also look at Canary Islands. Thanks again.

I've just cancelled a Cyprus holiday. Too close to Lebanon, we were there when it all kicked off last time and they were evacuating refugees from Lebanon by coat to Cyprus. Keep well away for safety

Rainybirdbath · 06/10/2024 13:52

Thank you @babasaclover

On the flight going over you can see explosions in the distance from war going on. My sister went in September and said she was scared on the flight going over.

A that time of year, you would need to go to the right area, I think its Paphos?.

When I was in Cyprus, we stayed in Protaras, and it was over the end of Oct into Nov, and literally everything shut down on 31 Oct. We went out the next day and there was hardly anywhere to eat.

We also noticed a difference in the sea temperature from 23 Oct to 5 Nov, it was remarkably colder the later it got. The hotel pool was freezing.

Trebolle · 06/10/2024 16:35

It's not my favourite time to go, I think it'll likely be cold and rainy. The pools won't be useable unless properly heated.

What about Madeira? That will be warmer

CleanShirt · 06/10/2024 16:39

I've been to northern Cyprus in November and it was lovely - still sunbathing weather, although the sun does go down by 5!

Rainybirdbath · 06/10/2024 16:47

@Trebolle I hadn’t considered Madeira, thank you.

I went about twenty years ago I think it was protaras. It got dark quite early. Weather still hot, but I’m Scottish so used to the cold. Lots of restaurants and shops shut. We had to go to aya napa for nightlife. We were young at the time, so really should have booked aya napa to stay from the start.
