Sorry I am a real novice as far as going to Disney but we are thinking of going next April for 10 nights. DH does not want to go at all so 10 nights is the most we can do. Also as he drives loads with his job he hates driving whilst on holiday so what I would like to do is stay in one of the hotels on one of the parks. Not sure how these work. Has anyone done this? Can we get transport from airport? Can we get transport to all parks? How far are the parks away from each other (told you I know nothing). Do we have to do parks all day every day and what does everyone else do? Any help will be greatly appreciated. If you have recommendation for hotel then that would be great.
Thanks in advance.

hi i havent been but my little boy has just got back from a weeks stay with dh's parents who have been taking his much younger sister every year for the past 12 years!! they all love it!! i will double check tomorrow but i think airport transfers are included also there are free buses that go between the different parks and hotels

not sure where they stayed but i think theyve tried a few hotels

i know she got a meal plan thing this time that worked out cheaper than 'paying as you go'

hope this helps, let me know if you want me to ask mil anything!!

If you go the a website called TheDibb its probably got many of the answers you need in its forums. Also if you get a book called The Unofficial Guide to Orlando (or maybe Disney) with Kids it should be pretty helpful too.

Same here flowertop. We are looking at the Wyndham hotel as it seems don't need car if you stay here. There is a free shuttle bus to some of the parks and it's on International Drive so can get bus to others. The hotel will pick you up from the airport.

Loads of transpport if you pick the right hotel/resort FT & easy busrides to all the parks.

What age are your DC's? (presuming you have some sorry>??!)

FloridaKbear · 23/04/2008 21:59

If you stay in a Disney hotel you will get free transportation from the airport (they even collect your bags and deliver them to your room) and free transportation to the Disney parks.

Flowertop we have just returned from 2 weeks in Disney and it is fab! Be warned however it may be very very busy. It was busy when we were there however someone told us that over Easter holidays they shut Magic Kingdom as it reached capacity (55,000) so please choose your time! We are planning to return in about 4-5 years time when are dcs are older and next time we will stay on Disney as it is much easier, however much more expensive. Be aware of the 'distance from Disney' that resorts quote. Ours said 10 minutes - yep ok when you are leaving at 7am, have NO traffic and time it to the entrance to the Disney not actually into the Magic Kingdom! Also our resort offered transport - at $10 per person!

From the Disney resorts you get transport via bus or monorail basically door to door. The standard is 5 star but so is the price. Pls feel free to ask more, I'm full of it!

We've been a few times. There are hotels on I Drive that offer free shuttle buses to the parks. We found these very good but the last bus back usually misses the fireworks

Last time we went we stayed at Disney's Port Orleans Riverside. You get free transport to the parks but can't get out!

You don't have to do parks all day. We did but the hotels have pools, or you can go to the waterparks. Depends what suits you as a family. Loads of people go shopping but that's my idea of hell, not a holiday.

The airline will do you transfers to your hotel.

Flowertop - not sure on what sort of budget you are looking at yet we have stayed on site at disneys polynesian hotel and it was brilliant, it has both the boats over to magic kingdom, you can watch the fireworks over cinderellas castle each night and illimunations on the lagoon.
we have car hire over there as we love doing other things that florida has to offer like shopping etc. polynesian has a lovely pool and its own beach, resturants are pricier like any on site disney hotel yet if you have a car you can go to places like wallmart to get some food for in your room. if you can afford it definitely worth the extra money, we love it and are hoping to go back.

One year, we spent a few days at one of Disneys All-Star Movie resorts. It was (& I think still is) the cheapest of the Disney resorts. It includes transportation to the parks & DS loved the giant sized decor around the resort. He was a huge Toy Story fan at the time. We would definitely stay there again. It was worth the difference in price between non-Disney accommodation because it extended the whole Disney experience. Disney have advice about transportation here

Forgot to say, there are 4 different value resorts: movies, music, sports & pop century. DP doesn't like travelling either so I understand what you're planning. I get a car anyway & do all the driving. But, you can cope without one, especially if you stay on a Disney resort. There are pools & other recreation on each resort. We thought the pools were great fun because of their decoration. You can also take tours. If you get tired of Disney, you could do a tour. I haven't used them, but just found this & they pick up from the Disney All-Star Resorts. I think the main problem is food. You're basically stuck eating food from Disney restaurants, which is a bit pricey.

aintnomountainhighenough you must have been there the same time as us !.It was certainly busy over easter but it was bearable we did everything we wanted to and the longest time we queued for anything was 45 mins and that was fior soarin with airconditioned inside queue. The secret was in the planning and getting up early, the worst crush was at MGM on Easter tuesday and because we had a villa we gave up that day !

I would recommend the dibb and we had a fantastic(if slightly retentive)book called the Unofficial Guide to Disney ,scares the wits out of you but packed with almost every piece of info you could poddibly want.
