Puerto Del Carmen Strip family friendly?

Hi, we are looking at villas next year in lanzarote. We've found a great priced one just a 10 minute walk from beach and the PDC strip. It'll be myself, husband, 3 year old then my parents, sister and BIL. Just wondering if it's family friendly? If it'll be okay for 3 year old? Plans are beach/pool but we would go out the odd night etc. I've never been to lanzarote. Thanks 😊

PDC has a great big beach. Lots of bars/restaurants along the front. its the busiest resort on lanzarote. depends what you consider family friendly? everywhere in lanzarote is friendly/laid back in general. if you go in winter you need a heated pool. there might be a bit of a hill on way back from beach.

It’ll be fine- easy to avoid the drunkenness.

There’s a family friendly bar that has a play area and a couple of bars do a mini disco a couple of times a week for kids.

Pirri · 23/09/2024 13:13

PDC is lovely. The "strip" is a very long promenade. There's also the old town.
Lots of restaurants and bars. One small seedy area easily avoided.

Playa Blanca is more geared towards families in that there are some family hotels but if you are S/C it's similar. Beach is better at PDC.

beakyboo10 · 23/09/2024 13:36

We stayed in PDC when my youngest was 3 years old a couple of years ago. We went in August and it was very busy and there were loads of families around. We would go down in an evening for dinner and then head back to the hotel for the kids disco and a few cocktails. The hill back up can be very steep but the beach is amazing in PDC and perfect for sandcastles.

MadKittenWoman · 23/09/2024 13:36

Not what you want to hear, but not keen on PDC. Didn't seem to be a lot to do for our tastes locally. Much prefer Playa Blanca / Puerto Rubicon end or Costa Teguise.

LadySummerislesApple · 23/09/2024 13:37

I personally don't like PDC, it's the Lanzarote Blackpool, with clubs, Irish pubs and strip bars. I thought it was a bit manky.

I preferred Playa Blanca and Costa Teguise.

dreamingofsun · 23/09/2024 13:54

there are pros and cons to all the resorts. Areas of PDC are a bit tacky, but the old town area is nice, including the marina. Beach is large. Its nearer the airport and its easier to do trips from here than playa blanca which is a bit isolated. Back from the front it can be a bit hilly - but some areas of playa blanca are too.

so i guess it comes back to my original question....what are you looking for? You might like the fact that PB is busier.

dreamingofsun · 23/09/2024 13:55

sorry PDC is busier....typo not PB

Gcsunnyside23 · 23/09/2024 14:00

Just back and had a great holiday and would say the strip is family friendly. Nice alternative if you're wanting quieter would be playa blanca but I would give Costa teguise a miss as it was a dud

dreamingofsun · 23/09/2024 14:03

why didnt you like CT gcsunnyside23? i know its supposed to be windier.

Bjorkdidit · 23/09/2024 15:04

The marina, old town and Playa Chica, which is great for snorkelling and diving from, are a lot nicer than the strip and main beach in PDC.

Scottishlanza · 23/09/2024 15:20

As PP said there is one seedy bit, the Atlantico Centre with a couple of nightclubs, the rest is family friendly.
It’s a long resort but if you are prepared to walk/taxi then it’s a great resort for a 3 year old. Lovely play park right by the restaurants in the harbour. Kids stuff to do on the top floor of the Biosfera shopping centre. Indoor soft play on the top floor of the new Seco shopping centre. Rancho Texas theme park with zoo and water park. A really nice play park on Pocillos beach. Family four seater bikes on a pedestrian prom down the matagorda end. Beaches are good
For the adults the choice of restaurants is immense with some really good quality ones far cheaper than you would pay at home. Loads of live music if the adults want to go out.
We are up to approx 30 visits and my grown up kids still go and take grandchildren

Pirri · 23/09/2024 17:29

@Scottishlanza DH and I went many times in the 80s/90s and more recently in 2019 with adult DS. We've done a couple of trips to Playa Blanca but honestly I think it's overrated and the beaches are rubbish.
Looking to go to PDC in January, do you have any hotel recommendations as a 30 visit veteran?

Newmummy343 · 23/09/2024 17:29

Wow thanks everyone I really appreciate all the responses 😊

So I looked and the villa is a 20 minute walk from the old town harbour. We are just 10 minutes down the hill to playa Grande beach.

Tbh our days are fine as I think we'll go to the beach as he loves making sandcastles etc and afternoons in the pool at the villa.

I just wasn't sure if PDC was a partying type place on the strip. Or if there was child friendly restaurants and that we could go too. Didn't expect there to be softplay and stuff so that'll be fun for him! He's very active and doesn't like sitting for long so if restaurants are a disaster we can just eat at the villa. I'm excited though as never been to Lanzarote before.

The texas ranch was a good day out for us

Scottishlanza · 23/09/2024 19:50

@Pirri
We don’t stay in hotels, we mainly stay self catering. We did do one hotel The Aequoro suites a couple of years ago. That was very nice but at the far end of Los Pocillos so a good walk into PDC proper or taxis are cheap and there’s a few bars down that way too. The heated pool was comfortable for swimming in winter and the food was good, we went all inclusive.

I would say the nicest apartment we’ve stayed in was Club del Carmen (pool like bath water), can also recommend The Rosamar apartments but these days I tend to go in the cheapest one I can find that has a heated pool and no sun bed wars. We often rent privately but the complex we stay on has got really popular and it’s increasing difficult to get a vacancy.

Pirri · 23/09/2024 21:47

@Scottishlanza thanks. I prefer s/c but DH prefers hotel.
Best apartment we ever stayed in was Bungalows Velasquez in PDC. Fabulous location.

Would love to stay in the Velasquez bungalows, above my budget these days and almost always booked up. I have to trade off going on lots of holidays v staying in better places. Don’t get me wrong I never slum it but have to forego front line! If I won the lottery I’d be in Lani’s Suites

Copperoliverbear · 23/09/2024 23:43

I love it there and the people are friendly.

Karwall57 · 12/07/2025 20:05

Loved Puerto del Carmen BUT the strip.Alot of these places are on the rob.Im writing this so you can watch your few bob when your there. So one place wanted to charge me a euro every time I used my card and a few restaurants like to over charge you the only reason I say this is because it happened in a couple of places one particular place tried to put a receipt on our bill that he picked up of the ground there was 16 of us there so when we were talking about it we all had the same experience it wouldn't turn me off going but I would be watching everything on my bill

@Newmummy343 we’ve already been in Feb and booked for November 😂 I might sneak another in before if I see a deal, it’s my happy place

Hollyhobbi · 13/07/2025 11:35

You obviously never heard the term Lanzagrotty then?

There’s nothing grotty about it apart from one tiny tiny part of the strip. Spotlessly clean, lovely walks, lovely beaches with natural sand, fantastic restaurants at all price points, good excursions. We holiday 5 times a year so see plenty of other places but always go twice to Lanzarote and if I had the money I’d buy there
