Right I am off to Dublin in the middle of June for 2 nights and am looking for a friendly little B&B/ hotel. It needs to be reasonably priced as I'm a bit brassig!

We need to be within walking distance of the city centre/ Temple bar area but are also going to Croke Park on the Saturday night. I have been before and found a lovely place but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called!!

Does anyone have any personal recommendations?

How much do you want to spend?? Single or double??

Wisteria · 24/04/2008 17:34

Double definitely , bit of a stolen weekend kind of thing. Anything up to about £200 for both of us but cheaper if poss, must have a decent en-suite. Would love something nice as I've been looking forward to this for eons..................

hi Wisteria,Don't know what dates you are going in June but it looks crazy busy at the minute. I would normally direct people to Cassidy's hotel as it is so central but it looks quite expensive at that time of year. I checked this website

www.visitdublin.com/events/dublin.aspx

which tells you all the events that are on and June is busy concerts etc so you'll find hotels more expensive. The Jury's Inn chain are good and there is one at Croke Park but if there is a sporting event on they are the first to go!!!

GrapefruitMoon · 24/04/2008 19:23

I love the Portobello area of Dublin - sure to be some B&Bs there - lots of Georgian houses. It's an easy walk to Grafton Street/Temple Bar area. I wouldn't worry too much about being close to Croke Park - Dublin is quite small and easy enough to get around...

Wisteria · 24/04/2008 21:28

Hi all - I knew you'd rescue me eventually!

Would this be any good do you think?

Ideally I want to be as close to Temple bar as possible, I can't see from the map how far O'Connell st is although I can see it's close to the liffey so am presuming it's only a 10 minute walk - would I be right?

OP posts:
Wisteria · 24/04/2008 21:35

Oh - and it's 14th-16th June

Jury's would be an ideal base for your stay in Dublin.

Enjoy your break.

rosturra · 24/04/2008 22:10

Yeah Wisteria, That's Jury's Inn.... I can't believe what they are charging at the minute but I guess June is peak season. You are right in the city centre at that Jury's... And Temple Bar is just beside the liffey so a stroll away....

Croke Park is really easy to get to,loads of buses go that way or you can walk in about 10-15 mins from O'Connell Street. I lived near Croke Park once and saw U2 there twice!!! Ah the memories!!!!!!!

rosturra · 24/04/2008 22:13

BTW check the rates for Cassidy's for your dates as it is round the corner from Jury's Inn(Parnell street)and I have always enjoyed my stay...great staff...

Hi

Well it's a nightmare isn't it? It doesn't help that the exchange rate is so dire at the minute - Cassidy's would have been wonderful but it's still working out really expensive!

I have booked the travelodge at Rathmines for now - simply because I don't want to be caught short but at 230euro it still works out at £171! Can you tell me what Rathmines is like, someone told me it was nice and still possible to walk to Temple bar but I'm not so sure.......

All recommendations are still welcomed as I can cancel that whenever if something better comes up.

Thanks for all your help

Rathmines is lovely, a little suburb of Dublin, I'm not sure where the Travellodge is but Portebello Bridge in Rathmines is abbout a 10 min walk to the city centre.I'll have a quick look at the usual sites and get back to you......

Wisteria · 26/04/2008 09:56

Oh thank you, you are wonderful!

10 minutes is fine, I don't mind a half hour walk to be honest, someone told me that there are a few nice bars and cafes there so it'll probably be fine I'm so excited!!

Hi wisteria,

Okay after looking about unless you want to stay out of town your options are limited but I did find two that might be of interest.

The Fleet Street Hotel is smack bang in the middle of Temple Bar and has got good reviews but works out about 259 euro for the 2 nights, but is in the city so you might be happier to book it. The best price for that hotel is on:

www.gulliver.ie

It's own website is more expensive!!???

The other option I did find is this hotel

www.kildarestreethotel.com/

I'm amazed that it is now 2 star as I remember it as "The Earl of Desmond" and it was big with the Americans. The rooms look fine to me and it is in a fantastic location, beside Trinity College. That room is coming in at 200 euro for the 2 nights.

I mean the travelodge in Rathmines will be a great bet as it's a nice spot with lot's of buses so it's really up to you

Wisteria · 26/04/2008 16:47

Hi Rosturra
That's strange because I can't get the search engine to work on gulliver.ie...............

The other one looks good though, I might swap my booking

Thanks for all your help, you've been a gem

OP posts:
rosturra · 26/04/2008 17:16

Type gulliver.ie into google and it should give you a link that takes directly there

Wisteria · 26/04/2008 18:27

I can get the site up but the booking/ reservation page doesn't seem to work (I'm probably doing something stupid!)

OP posts:
rosturra · 26/04/2008 23:29

Hi wisteria,
I've had a look at Gulliver and have tried to book the Fleet Street Hotel and it allows me... You could always ring Gulliver reservations on Monday and do it manually if you wanted to book that one.

I would book the Kildare street Hotel (Formerly Earl of Kildare) direct as you won't pay a booking charge.

Or you could stick with Rathmines!!!!! Oh the choices!!!
