Ryanair Priority & 2 Cabin Bags Question

Hi, we are flying for the first time in about 6 years and luggage has moved on a bit since I last flew. We are travelling 2 adults, a 8 year old and 4 year old, I booked Priority & 2 Cabin Bags but I think we will struggle to carry all of that luggage around the airport. Does anyone know if we can check some of the 10kg bags into the hold before we go through to departures? It would also help if I could put some of the liquids in those bags. I tried the ryanair chat but getting a bot that doesn't answer the question.

Do you have any checked in bags or were you originally just going with hand luggage only?

Isthatarealname · 16/09/2024 13:01

I expect we will need a checked bag too, but I haven't booked one just yet

Did you already pay for the carry on bags? They are more expensive than the 10kg bags.
Sometimes they actively want you to check in the bags especially if it's a full flight so possibly they'll let you do that.
Also when you check in there's opportunities to purchase bags not sure if you can change the bags you've already bought to checked in?
Sorry I'm not being very helpful

We are going on Wednesday with them so when I check in tomorrow I'll look to see if there's an option to change the bags to checked in.

Thanks everyone. They are already paid for, but the flights were a gift so I have no problem paying an extra £60 or whatever it is to buy a hold bag, I was just hoping whilst I check that in they will let me drop a couple of cabin bags off at the same time.

Edited to add DS (4) is a bolter and hyperactive so I am worried about carrying too many bags and dragging him around!

It’s cheaper if you add the hold bag in advance on the website or app. I had to do it the other day when on a work trip and think it was £45.

This being Ryanair, they won't cut you any slack or do you any favours on bags, such as accepting extra hold luggage at check in. If you want to check the bags, book them in advance.

If the OP pays for a hold case, they might take some of the large cabin bags for free as well, it's always worth asking. Depends on what bags they have booked in the hold vs cabin.

Plus the mood of the check in person. They're not always monsters. We had one who suggested we rearrange some stuff between cases so they didn't have to charge for one case being overweight when obviously they could have just charged us.

You never know, if the check in person is a parent themselves they might sympathise with the challenge of getting 2 young DC and all that baggage through security and onto the plane and help a little by putting some in the hold.

I'm sure we've had it with Ryanair and we've definitely had it with Jet2. But the OP just needs to make sure all her liquids above 100 ml are in the hold case in case they say no. Plus that there's nothing with lithium batteries, anything that's needed on the flight or vital medication etc in bags that might go in the hold.

Thanks all, I have booked a hold bag and I'll pop the liquids in there and just see what they say when I ask at drop off. If not DH will just have to deal with the luggage whilst I focus on DS!

Are you asking if they'll take the cabin bags to the plane for you and put them in the cabin or if they'll put them in the hold like a checked in bag?
It just confused me when you said about you'll happily buy a hold bag but want to drop off the cabin bags as well.
Because surely if you're paying for a checked bag just put most of the stuff in that and don't take the cabin bags? Or limit it to just one.

Isthatarealname · 18/09/2024 18:29

No I am asking if they'll put a cabin bag in the hold.

I would have just booked hold bags but a well meaning family member booked the tickets with the 2 cabin bag package per person. It feels like a bit of a waste of money to not use the paid for cabin bags, plus spending on say 2 or 3 hold bags as well.

Ah I get you. If it's a busy flight they might do it for free. They often ask for volunteers to put their cabin bags in the hold. So yeah it's worth an ask on the day.

Why would you struggle with that? Unless there's huge SEN it's normal.
