100% cancellation fee typical for flights?

It's my day to bombard the Travel board with questions!

I'm booking my first ever flight - this was previously ex-dp's domain - and it's to Canada, with ds (4).

I'm worrying - do it well - about ds getting one of his not infrequent sickness-and-diorrhea bugs or similar around the time of travel, and having to cancel the flights. The terms for the BA flights we're looking at include a 100% cancellation fee for this kind of thing. Is this typical?

Thanks.

yes 100% is normal unless you buy a fully-flex ticket

that is why you buy travel insurance

Thanks, TB. I wasn't altogether sure if your average travel insurance would cover this. Seems that, with a doctor's certificate, it would.

You probably wouldn't see the full fare back though - allow for an excess charge and possible admin fee for airline
