Refund for tui holiday in 3 weeks??

BoogieNitesss · 15/09/2024 22:05

I wondered whether anyone could help me.

I've got a holiday booked in 3 weeks from now but due to a relative's ill health I am reluctant to go. Does anyone know what the refund procedure is for cancelling less than 28 days before the holiday starts?

Holiday booked with tui.

Is it a TUI flight? If so it'll cost you 90% of the total.

Sorry to hear your relative is so unwell. Have you checked your travel insurance, they often provide cover for this for close relatives

DolyKat · 15/09/2024 22:17

Agree to check holiday insurance. They may pay out for cancelling due to illness of a close relative, as long as it wasn't a known condition when you booked the holiday

Perroi · 15/09/2024 22:19

Usually if it's a package holiday you lose the whole amount if it's less than 10 weeks. Only option is to claim on insurance if it's close family and unexpected.

Thanks guys... as I thought I am a week late cancelling!

My mum has a chronic condition but has sadly taken a turn for the worst. Not sure if she is close to dying but she is not well.

Not sure what to do seems such a shame to waste that money and it is only a 5 day break. Mum would want me to go but not in a holiday mood as such but maybe I should go rather than waste the £1k or whatever it cost.

Flights are with easyjet but holiday booked with tui.

Xx

Chronic condition is not unexpected.

I would go and chill out in these circumstances, your mum would approve you say. I'm assuming as a short break it's in Europe, you can always fly home if needed.

You could appeal to TUI directly or to your insurance but I suspect from what you have written they will say it was a preexisting situation you should have declared

Yes I think this is probably the sensible answer. Seems a shame to waste the holiday. If I could transfer it to next year I would.

You may well be able to just change the dates

redtrain123 · 15/09/2024 22:31

Have you got travel insurance?

MrsPadhd · 15/09/2024 22:34

Would anyone go in your place or is it just you going?

I'm wondering if you can just change the lead passenger name or if it's too close.

I would go, it may be the break you need- or decide nearer the due departure date?
Although they don't know for sure the medical professionals would tell you (even if not in words) if your mum would be ok for the 5 days or not.

Hugs.

Can you claim through them?

Thanks yes I do have travel insurance but its a solo trip that I have been looking forward to but am worried about mum who has gone down hill in the last month or two. I could see what the travel insurance covers for and also check to see whether tui would change the dates.

You can't usually claim if it is a pre existing condition. Unless you declared it and paid extra premium to cover it when you bought the policy

Thanks I wondered about this. Definitely a pre existing condition going back years. I might just go on the holiday and hope for the best. Am.exhausted tbh! Taking this holiday to chill as husband hates coming on hotel pool holidays.

Sorry to hear your mum is so poorly. Speak to the insurance company in the first instance. They can only say no but they might say yes, so it's definitely worth a phone call to try.
If no joy there, then ask Tui about changing dates / getting a credit note to use at a later date. I've heard of them doing this for others in the past so you might get lucky.

Thanks it's a tricky decision as to whether to go or not. Only Spain so I could fly back if I have to but still x
