Help me find a solo weekend break?

What I am looking for:

  • someplace with hiking? Hills? The sea?
  • probably overseas, although I could be tempted by the UK and a train?
  • or one of the 'go ape' thing?
  • or kayaking or canoeing?

How I want to get there:

  • either train
  • or flights from (ideally) City or (maybe) Stanstead
  • not longhaul

Any suggestions?

try just you dot co dot uk

they have a selection on their site. Not used them or know any one who has, but it looks like what you are asking for.

Ok, will look. I don't mind sorting out flights etc on my own, anyway, that's what I've done other times ... it's just, other times, I've had an idea of where I wanted to go!

Oh, no, sorry, should have been clear - I'm not single! I'm not looking to make new friends! I just want to go away for the weekend on my own!

That site looks lovely, but not what I'm looking for!

specialist tour operators will be able to negotiate good room rates for single travelers.

I appreciate you may not want to do this (find, double up or even meet anyone).

Do you just want tips for others that have done a single adventure?

For some tips and advice have a look at this www.solotravel.or

Hope you have a lovely time whatever you choose to do.

Thanks! I don't really want to be part of a group - I'm just looking for destination ideas, iyswim.

have you thought of a flight to Malaga? A short bus ride up to Granada and from their you have the Sierra Nevada at your behest, as well as sunspots, both large and small, along the coast..

or..

A trip to Chamonix, blessed with summer and winter activities, with a lovely small town feel as well

PaninoPan · 20/04/2008 11:33

or Snowdonia - climb/walk Snowden, and still get to the seaside for a bit of R&R.

PaninoPan · 20/04/2008 11:36

or flight to Athens, and a seacat to one of the nearer islands for energetic walkies and or water sports.

PaninoPan · 20/04/2008 11:39

one of the Balearics ( i think Majorca) has a mountainous northern section), or Corfu, in the central region.

PaninoPan · 20/04/2008 11:41

ah Crete! And do the Gorge Walk, right down the centre of the island. Lots of quick flights, don't need a car, hot and energetic etc...

I think Crete and Athens are further than I want to go - will check if they have flights from City, might tip the balance. Malaga could work. Or Chamonix. I don't think Wales tempts that much, I fear English food, generally [wimp].

Lots of ideas, though, I will look at flights ...
