Tui no show policy due to pregnancy

Hello, my dd has recently found out she has pregnant, and her midwife believes she is very late on and could be at 17 weeks and booked her in for a urgent ultrasound next week. However, she was due to travel with us and now will not be, is it better to cancel her off it ? Or for her to no show at the airport. Is there any charges for either ?

Insurance should cover her costs so definitely cancel in advance and claim back. Will she be beyond the safe to fly limit?

CreamC · 10/09/2024 09:14

When are you travelling?

Marsh3melz · 10/09/2024 09:17

You would be best asking TUI. You will need to inform them as if you have a transfer they hold the whole coach up waiting for people to show up.

I wouldn’t have thought insurance would cover not travelling because she’s in second trimester, unless there’s any other medical issues.

You would need to check the terms of your booking, or contact Tui to ask.

17 weeks isn't "very late on", when are you travelling??

Happydays321 · 10/09/2024 09:20

The safe flying window is I think 36 weeks so if all is well then she'd be able to travel. She'd only be able to cancel and claim on insurance if a doctor advises against travel.

It's very late on for this to be the first medical appointment after only just realising. So nowhere near late in terms of ability to fly but late in terms of the scan needing to be urgent as it's the first one.

Topee · 10/09/2024 09:40

I’d arrange a private scan and still go!

Getonwitit · 10/09/2024 09:40

17 weeks means she can still fly.

The flight clashes with the ultrasound. Given she's found out so late, I expect she doesn't want to cancel her ultrasound

Yes she is very concerned as both her ultrasound and booking appointment clash with when we were due to fly

Her biggest concern to reply to everyone is that she’s found out so late, so her midwife said it was a urgent ultrasound as she has missed all of her first trimester care and a lot of her second so the care needs to placed in for both her safety and the baby

I'd just be booking a private scan, and rescheduling my nhs scan and booking appointment. I went to Iceland at 21 weeks no problems but do what's best for your daughter hopefully you don't loose the money completely but could do as there's no reason she can't fly x

MiddleAgedDread · 10/09/2024 10:03

Could you try and change the scan appointment (appreciate that might not possible at such short notice), or book her a flight out a day later then she can go to the scan and still enjoy the rest of the holiday? Or pay for a private scan which should be possible in the next week.

Disastrouspottytraining · 10/09/2024 10:25

How much of the holiday is left after the scan appointment? Can she ask Tui to move her flight to the day after / a couple of days after her scan? I agree with her that getting her scan / booking appointment sorted is important if she is already 17w.

Marsh3melz · 10/09/2024 14:47

Agree with private scan. ASAP.

YouveGotAFastCar · 10/09/2024 16:09

If the NHS considered this urgent; they’d have her in EPU tomorrow, not next week. It’s unusual, but it’s not urgent.

Her first scan isn’t going to be as important now anyway, as she’s well outside the window for testing via ultrasound, so it’ll need to be done by blood test. Her booking appointment is just them asking about family
history, and can take place on the phone, I had one yesterday.

I’d book a private scan and go on the holiday. She’ll probably need one after the shock! And then she’ll have her 20 week scan quite soon when she gets back.
