France - Help!

Hello!

We are looking to book a holiday to France for 2026. But have a complicated group - they'll be 8 of us in total.

1 will not fly - so trying to find somewhere reachable by ferry from the UK. We are all based down in Devon.

We will have a 1 year old with us so don't want to have to drive for hours on the other side.
We will also have two 80+ year olds so want to limit the hustle and bustle of travelling.

We will be looking to rent a villa for us all to stay in. Although we have two 80+ year olds with us they are very up for most things (within reason on holiday) ie. Beach days, boat trips, train journeys, eating out, sightseeing etc etc.

Can anyone recommend somewhere really nice in France to holiday that meets the above criteria. I've googled the life out of it and keep getting conflicting results.

Looking to go in June also - anyone been to France in June? How's the weather?

Many thanks in advance!

I agree, ferry Plymouth to Roscoff. I can recommend Crozon/Morgat. We've been there 4 times with young children and grandparents. Beautiful beaches, food, and activities to do with children. Look on Vrbo to rent a villa.

How about taking the ferry from Poole or Portugal to Jersey?

No guarantee on the weather, but also true of anywhere in Northern France. Plenty to do in Jersey and minimal driving, it's easy to get about. Nice beaches and restaurants too.

It's not as quaint as France but there's lots to do and an easy bus service.

Also ( yes I know it might sound terrible) but a cruise can work really well for multi generational non flyers. You can go from Southampton to France and Spain in a week.

Plymouth - Roscoff then drive to Southern Brittany. We stayed at Carnac this year and absolutely loved it. Pretty half timbered towns, sheltered beaches, island day tripping. Vannes is a lovely little city to explore. Similar length drive as Roscoff to St Malo but a bit better chance of warmer weather. I've been to Brittany several times but this summer in the Morbihan area was our best trip. St Malo is lovely but so crowded, you're going in June so maybe not such an issue.Weather will be similar to home but likely a few degrees warmer.

Ferries to Jersey are from Portsmouth, not Portugal btw 🤣

@Lunamoon23 You can go on Brittany Ferries from Plymouth to Roscoff, Brittany. You can take your car and get a cabin so its comfortable and get a meal on board the ferry. We go on an overnight crossing so leave Plymouth at 9 and get to Roscoff by 8.30 next morning. I do this trip all the time because I've got a holiday home in Morlaix. That is about 40 minutes car drive from Roscoff. Morlaix is nice because they have a good market, a lovely port where you can walk around with flowers all the way around, an old church with stained glass windows, an old medieval house, tourist I formation centre, nice cafés and restaurants and is about 20 minutes drive to the nearest beach Carentec. They have a swimming pool with jacuzzi and a sports centre with very reasonable prices. There are other nice beaches a little further drive away (35 mins) and lots of other things to visit. There is also a green route into the National Forest for walking or cycling. The Carrefour supermarket is a 15 minute drive away. I'm sure if you did a search on Morlaix you'd find accommodation there.

Morlaix also has a huge viaduct you can go up the many steps and go up and over.
