What to do when you can’t decide on a hotel?

I’ve been hunting for the elusive “perfect” hotel for a holiday. I keep going round and round and round in circles. I’ve probably looked at every single hotel.

I’ve found some which are:

Option a) good location but meh room for £100 a night.
Option b) good location with fab room £200 a night
Option c) ok location but gorgeous hotel and grounds with fine room £200 a night
Option d) ok location in ok hotel but lovely room £100 a night

How much time will you spend in the hotel? When I go on holiday I'm out exploring all the time so the room is less important to me, but then I don't stay in hotels anyway because I don't do the whole sitting round the pool thing.

You need to decide what's important to you from a holiday and go with that.

I think you need to set your budget and then decide your priority. Do you plan to be in your room a lot? Are the hotel facilities ones you will use? No point paying a premium for a feature like a gym if it's of no interest to you. For me location is important as I like to explore.

Fluffygoon · 08/09/2024 09:41

Option A - for me location is more important as I don’t tend to spend much time in the room. If it’s a special occasion trip and you want to spend more then Option B.

I think part of the problem is that my “head budget” is £100 a night and dh’s is £200 a night

I think this really depends on the type of holiday.

I mostly do sightseeing holidays and spend very little time in the hotel. I want a great location, a king size or bigger bed and reviews that say it is clean.

If it was a resort holiday where I’d be spending time hanging out in the hotel by the pool then I might care more about the overall hotel facilities.

What sort of holiday is it and how will you be spending your time? If you will be spending your days at the hotel lounging by the pool then I’d go for C. If you’re only going to be there to sleep then I’d prioritise location and I’d also go for the meh room and spend the extra on days out and nice restaurants.

It’s a bed to me and maybe breakfast beyond that little else given. But then we don’t AI or interested in sun loungers around a pool.

view a bonus.

Depends on the type of holiday. Resort based it's the £200, city break out all day and evening £100.

Same as this for me. City break, don't really care (although obviously it's nice to stay somewhere nice if I find a bargain). Sunshine holiday where we'll spend a lot of time around the hotel, much more important that's it's a pleasant place to be. I'm not a beach goer on holiday generally as we're right on the beach at home, but I do like a nice pool area.

Option b for me but it depends on the type of holiday.
Culture / city break location is most important.
Relax and flop the quality of hotel is more important.

I evaluate according to my must haves, which can vary depending on location.
Then I look at the price & then I might see if I belong to the loyalty programme for any of the suggestions.

Microbantime · 03/03/2025 06:00

It depends on what extras are available to me to see if £200 will be worth it. Does it include a good breakfast, coffee and tea in the room, toiletries thst save me taking my own (particularly good if on a city break), aircon, wifi, fridge in the room, etc. all these things make a difference for us. If none of it, good location and basic room would suit us fine.
