Wheelchair-friendly destinations

My husband has recently become a wheelchair user.

We've been interrailing this summer - which had its moments - but want something a bit more straightforward for October.

Where have you been that was wheelchair-friendly (not too many hills, cobbles or stairs)?
Are there any good companies we could look at?

We found Tenerife to be very accessible.

Friends of mine enjoy cruising. They've mostly been with p and o from Southampton but they seem to be good for wheelchair users.

A cruise might be good, but check with the company about wheelchairs.

I witnessed an awful row on a ship when the user wanted to keep their chair outside their cabin in a corridor.

They were told it was a safety hazard, & user complained there wasn't enough room inside the cabin. Both POVs were correct.

All Canaries good but go for all inclusive and accessible bathroom.

Cala Bona in Majorca is very wheelchair friendly. Look at Hotel Cala Bona or Protur Bonaire Aparthotel.

Torreblanca and feungirola in Spain. They have accessible beach changing rooms and showers and toilets and wooden paths down to the sea.

It's also very flat.

Thanks everyone.

We don't like cruises and, after our recent holiday, we are well-versed in how variable accessible bathrooms can be 🙄

Ooh, my granny loved Fuengirola.

Have a look at Limitless Travel. They are group holidays though.

We found Tenerife to be very accessible.

I'd always assumed that it was quite hilly. Maybe I've been led astray by the fact it's got a volcano.

Any resorts flatter than others?

Tenerife is very hilly. There are flat areas right on the coast but having lived there for a long time I wouldn't take my wheelchair user ds (who was ironically born there!) for a holiday!

itsgettingweird · 07/09/2024 21:35

Meant to say because the flat areas are quite restrictive to the coast. And that's mainly central las americas - not where I'd go for a,holiday.

I second Limitless Travel and also disabled travel.com
and Euan’s Guide( reviews by disabled travellers).

I've been getting lots of ads on Instagram recently for TUI accessible holidays, so that could be worth checking out.

I don't need accessible holidays so not sure why they're targeting me, but they do look very useful.
