I’m going to York for 2 nights (so will have 2.5 days there) with my 7 year old son. I’m wondering what we should see/do there and in what order to make the most of the time. Any ideas/tips please.

We've just been to the wonderlab at the Railway museum. It was great and my DC were also really interested in the main part of the railway museum.

We also really enjoyed the Jorvik centre when we went before. It was worth booking, as the queues were quite long.

Railway museum, walk down the shambles, maybe a boat trip? The minster is amazing but depends if you think he would enjoy it.
Theres a viking experience place, and a wizard crazy golf across the road, both fun

We did york dungeons and really enjoyed it

Walk the city walls, the train museum, river cruise, jorvik museum is good but very long queue. The open top bus tour is really good too. Castle museum has lot's to see. The van gogh exhibition is good too

My DDs enjoyed these at a similar age when we visited: Railway museum, York chocolate story, York Castle Museum
Yorvik was closed when we went but I've been before and would recommend that too

If you're going by train I would definitely go to the York Railway museum because it's free, even if you just walk through it for about five minutes. The Jorvik Viking centre and shambles are worth going to, and the York Castle museum, although a bit of a way out, though you could walk round the walls to get there.

Al of the above and also there is an air museum just outside York which is really good. He may be a bit young but we also enjoyed the ghost walk in the evening. It's quite a long walk though.(It wasn't particularly scary).

Another vote for the Castle Museum!

All if the above plus Dig which is a hands on archeology museum...think u can get joint tickets with Jorvik.

Railway museum and wonderlab
York chocolate story
Hole in the wand crazy golf
Dig museum
Rowntree park - just outside the city centre but you can walk to it
Walk on the walls
See York Minster
Visit the shambles
Shopping wise there's an entertainer, CEX and a really good Waterstones
Plush cafe is a lovely place for afternoon tea and people have recommended brew and brownie to us before

York city centres pretty compact do I'd think any order would be fine. I've taken my DS, now 11 for a few years now and we always manage to get everything done.

The York Cat Trail is a good way to see the city - you download a map, then follow the trail around to spot the cat statues.

Thanks. This sounds good fun and lots of ideas from the posts.

York Ghost Merchants on the Shambles. Massive queues but if you are staying and can get there early it probably will make a difference.
