Gong in the autumn, active family with older teens. Love to swim. Please hit me with your favourite activities if you've been!

I noticed that some of the boats were much smaller and took fewer people,

We were on a smaller boat. It was an 18 seater inflatable. Just brilliant.

We used Taxiin, which is a Madeiran version of Uber but even better because you can WhatsApp them to arrange journeys ahead of time. It means you can go on levada walks but also arrange to be picked up and not have to wait to find an Uber. We’d do a walk and then message to say we’d need a car in an hour and they’d arrange it!

I prefer the levada walks that aren’t as popular so you can just walk without needing a guide and not come across too many people. You can have a look at the elevation/distance on here, and it also shows you which ones are still closed because of the forest fires last week ifcn.madeira.gov.pt/atividades-de-natureza/percursos-pedestres-recomendados/percursos-pedestres-recomendados.html

That's a good link, thanks.

And yes a smaller boat sounds good, as long as a whale doesn't overturn the boat!

Ah we went to Sabor a Fado! I'd forgotten about that. I think it's for the tourists really, but nicely done. A little place, there was a guy singing and his daughter who was about 10 maybe did a few songs, super cute! Before disappearing off onto her ipad 😄The food was quite nice, particularly the seafood.

I've just remembered, if you get the cable car to the Monte Palace (with the amazing garden), there is a really nice little cafe called 'Land' just as you come off the cable car. Definitely a cafe rather than restaurant, but really good food and coffees etc.

in Funchal we loved the Indian Palace - it was the best Indian food I’ve ever had by far.
The restaurant is not much of a looker from the outside but the food was something else… 10/10

Seconded. We had a delicious lunch there.

We loved the Taj Mahal Indian 🇮🇳. Get Fork app and use to book as often discounts off restaurant bills
