Premium v Premium economy

Looking at flights to Western coast of the US and considering treating ourselves to PE just wondering if anyone's upgraded (this is American Airlines) and if it's worth it

What's the price difference? And what about Premium is better? If it's comfy seats, more space and better food then it's worth it. I only know about Virgin Economy Delight v Premium and the latter is a way better experience.

I’ve done premium economy on a few airlines (but not American). I do much prefer the extra space to stretch out on the long flights, but I wouldn’t pay a fortune for them. I’ve just paid £1300 for a round trip premium economy to Seattle and that is about as much as I would pay. Sometimes we just get PE on the way home as it tends to be cheaper and you get the benefit of the extra luggage for all our shopping in the US.

Then the price came through- an extra £2600 for the 2 of us!
I don't think so!

When heading to the US, I go economy out and Premium back. I hate night flights and a bit more space makes it easier to cope with.

Can't comment specifically on AA.

DataPup · 30/08/2024 16:30

For me it's only worth about an extra £100, and that's mostly because we use the extra baggage allowance.

DecafDodger · 30/08/2024 16:45

No way for that money! On most airlines, premium is worth extra couple of hundred at most, and on many airlines it's still worse than regular economy on others.

AA economy is grim, really hard to sleep if it’s a night flight. I’d upgrade if it is the red eye back from the US.

We booked BA flights to US; didn't know it was a code share & we flew AA.

Never again, everything about the 'plane, service, food etc was awful

Interesting - I used to go back and forth frequently on BA, and the last few experiences a few years ago were SO bad that I only flew American after that.

Just booked round-trip LHR-JFK with AA and the reservations agent told me SHE wouldn't fly BA.

Some of the routs on BA to US are awful. I would never fly Ba TA again.

I'm fresh off a long haul BA flight and did World Traveller (economy) out on a day flight and then World Traveller Plus (premium) on the red eye back. It was worth it. It was comfy and we slept and the room alone made it worth it.

GlitteringUnicorn · 04/09/2024 06:11

We flew PE on AA to Phoenix last year.
Definitely worth it.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 04/09/2024 06:38

Price up the different legs separately. We can back from NY and it was about £70 each for premium. It was way more on the way out. Also gave us the extra bag for our shopping!
