Giraffe at RFH

Hi - does anyone know whether Giraffe at the festival hall on the south bank gets over-run Sunday lunchtimes? I know you can't book and am wondering what time to turn up to get a table without queueing?
Thanks for any info!

not a fan of giraffe but a seasoned rfh luncher... i would say get there on the dot of 12 or even a tad before if it opens earlier. most of these places don't open until 12 though - yes we are the family hanging around outside at 11.55am

Thanks, where would you recommend around rfh other than Giraffe? It's adults plus ds who is nearly 4.

is your ds an accommodating eater?

FranMay · 17/04/2008 22:10

Hmm, I'd like to say yes. He did used to be but not anymore! We could go to Pizza Express I guess! No worries, I know there are loads of options around there.

hi franmay.

i hope i didn't inadvertently give the impression that we have the lowdown on the secret fabulous family lunch venues because we're not so keen on giraffe! tis sadly not the case.

the reason i asked about your ds is because we recently went to a newish dim sum place called Ping Pong which has all you can eat dim sum at sunday lunchtime. my two didn't eat a single morsel though, but all the adults were happy!

otherwise, we do strada, wagamamma, pizza express etc.

if you go a little further down the south bank you will be within reach of Tas Pide which is good.

and there are quite a few places now in the vicinity of borough market.

and further still at more london place is Dim T which has dim sum and asian "fusion" food, and a good kids menu - i.e. quite bland and healthy which is what my two will eat.

anyway, hth and enjoy your lunch.

bossykate · 17/04/2008 22:20

if it's primarily adults than i would go for strada, ping pong or dim t.
unless you wanted to push the boat out at roast or somewhere near borough market.

here are a couple of places near borough market.

Roast

Tapas Brindisa

Canteen, under the back of the RFH has a really good menu with things to suit 'experiment-averse' 4 year-olds, and is better for adults than Giraffe.

hifi · 18/04/2008 18:40

theres a huge pizza express near there, you could always send one of you off to q first.giraffe dont do a kids all inc menu which is a little annoying.

FranMay · 18/04/2008 21:07

Thanks, now I have loads of options!

Giraffe at RFH is difficult to get into at lunchtime at w/e. We waited there for almost an hour recently but that's bcos we went there at 1pm. I find the food to be good - always enjoy the lamburger with peanut sauce.
A bit confused by Hifi bcos last time we went kids had their own menu (the sheet of paper that they can colour and draw on)and options like sausage and mash and pasta went down well with ours and think they had a drink and dessert incl in price - as a matter of fact I remember now that I was impressed by fact that they could have the exotic blended juices as part of their inclusive option, rather than just the usual aj or oj. Baloons are always a big hit as well. I went to Ping Pong with my 4 yr old and for what I paid felt that Giraffe was much better value for money.

Tas is great. They had a hook on high chair and none of the waiters batted an eyelid when my baby mashed lots of food into their lovely white tablecltohs.
