Any suggestions for places in Europe that cater for kids with allergies?

Hi everyone,

We want to go somewhere sunny in June but are having difficulty finding a place that caters for dairy- and wheat-free diet (amongst other things!). Can anyone recommend a company or website that would be able to help us find a holiday because I really need one and our little ones, 4 and 1, could do with a break from mummy's cooking.

hi there, we have 3 kids 12, 10 and 7. the oldest is allergic to all dairy, egg, nuts, peppers/spices kiwi and passion fruit! the second is intolerant to dairy, sugar and colourings, the third can stuff her face with whatever she wants!!! we have holidayed here and abroad for many years and apart from self catering have found that with advanced discussions many places are able to accomodate. if your looking for sun we had a good experience with mark warner in greece. kitchen staff were v. flexible and made the boys there own kebabs etc which ours loved. have also been to club med in ibiza which was good when they were v.small . they had a dedicated childrens kitchen and pureed plain veg etc. went to new york recently and there are some great restaurants there that cater for any diet issues if you surf the net there are plenty of recommendations. in this country plenty of places have been great, Ickworth manorin suffolk(?) stands out in memory as does the seaview hotel in the isle of wight. i usually phone first and explain the issues and then talk through the possibles we would like. i think a lot of places are just not imaginitive or sure of what things will turn out like. we went to one hotel in dorset where the chef had been practising for weeks to get a cake recipe right without egg and dairy.! nowadays there is so much available in the supermarkets/cookbooks etc that people are willing to try to help in my experience. i have loads of recipes (although we don't have the wheat issue) that could be adapted if you cook? i have to say puddings is the biggest issue for us and i sometimes take some longlife yoghurt/dessert with us for emergencies! have you tried looking on the u.k anaphalaxis website i recall they had some specialist holiday co. info but thats going back a bit....
hope that helps a bit

Thanks so much jlimum for all of your suggestions. I will start off with Mark Warner and go from there. Here's hoping that in a couple of months' time we'll be relaxing in the shade of a palm tree with full tummies.
