Anyone know Gloucester?

Hello, we’ve had a lovely couple of days in Gloucestershire and driving home up north tomorrow. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good spots or things to see with the kids aged 2 and 7 either in Gloucester or on the way back up north? (although the 2 year old is very robust, no naps or pushchair - lots of stamina! More like a 4/5 year old in physical ability ). We’ve done lots of parks and forestry things so any different ideas would be welcome. Is the city centre worth a visit?
Thanks in advance!

The cathedral is very nice and has a Harry Potter tour (lots of scenes were filmed there).

The city museum is quite good too, especially if the DC like dinosaurs or Romans.

Tewkesbury is a pretty little town - medieval buildings, the Abbey is good for a wander around, you can take a boat trip on the river, there are family friendly cafes and coffee shops, a couple of small museums, a play park near the Abbey,

Or take a detour up to Evesham Country Park - it’s got shops and cafes, but also there’s a lovely miniature railway, a play castle, a nature reserve.

Gloucester city centre isn’t great at all. The cathedral is spectacular though.
If you could go home via the Cotswolds there are lots of pretty towns and villages to explore eg Broadway. Snowshill Manor (NT) is lovely as well.

The docks are ok for a wander and yes to the cathedral

Winchcombe is a small, pretty, town, not far and you can walk to Sudeley Castle. On the way to Tewksbury and the M5.

Also depends how you’re heading North, but Compton Verney just into Warwickshire is a great place to visit. Lots going on, it’s a stately house museum, art gallery and child friendly grounds. Also has a lovely cafe.
Easy to join the M42 for M5/6.

Thanks everyone! We ended up doing the cathedral and to the docks for a bit of brief shopping and a picnic. We quickly returned to the car when my son decided to run after people with a large red hand toy and roar like a lion in the designer outlet. Without rest for breath. He then slept for hours. Fun times.
