Paris accommodation

Off too Paris in October for four nights,, our girls are 17 and 13 so realistically need a two bed room place. Is air bnb ok there I don’t want to be one of the tourists that upset people (am from a tourist area!)
But not sure about two hotel rooms are would the be nearby/adjoining? One DD be nervous if it was her and her sister in a separate room and I would like to sleep with DH on holiday….(apologies TMI)
what’s the best area to stay in?
I have looked at the ibis hotel site but a too dumb to understand when it says two rooms what the configuration would be!
Advice/recommendations so much appreciated please.

most hotels have family rooms - lots with eg sleeping galleries and can easily accommodate 4 or more

MegCleary · 24/08/2024 11:23

Thanks but family room may be tricky

Not sure on your budget, but Hotel Brighton is fabulous with kids. It's opposite Jardin des Tuileries so peaceful yet walkable to pretty much everywhere. They do breakfast and interconnecting rooms.

MegCleary · 24/08/2024 12:56

@Lordofmyflies i wish that was something I could afford, but thanks for replying

We stayed in a couple of Citadines apart hotels on our recent trip. The one at Montmartre was nice with a roof terrace that had fab views.

I stayed at Ibis Clichy-Batignolles - we got the family suite.
It was like a mini apartment. So not two adjoining rooms with a connecting door.
But one room 'inside' the other.
Once you open the main door, if you looked :
Left : Door to bathroom
Front : Door to bedroom 1
Right : Door to a bedroom, inside of which there was another bathroom.

We stayed here this year: www.mk2hotelparadiso.com

Adjoining rooms, reasonable price, 5min walk to metro station. DS loved the cinema aspect. Was really great.

Thanks all, some good ones there. Some a bit too steep.
is air bnb frowned upon? Just thinking of the two bedroom situation.

It sounds like the OP doesn't want a family room! Our kids are the same age and we've often had two hotel rooms - we just ask for either adjoining (you can lock the doors between) - or adjacent and they're either next to each other or across the hall. One double and one twin room - it's a very common request!

As for using an apartment - yes we've done that too and it wasn't a problem. On different trips we did hotel in Montparnasse and Les Halles and an apartment in Montmartre - all worked out fine.

CMOTDibbler · 26/08/2024 13:51

Right this moment I am in the Ibis Styles Puteaux La Defense and my room is on where there are two rooms behind one other door so like a two bed suite (obv in my case the two rooms do not have the same key card but both open the outer door) so you are connected but separate).
It's a nice location too

MegCleary · 26/08/2024 16:22

Snoring DH and teenage girls two bedrooms best and nervous DD perhaps if adjoining! I made been musing and looking through the very helpful links.
I was looking to stay near the Gare du Nord so the Ibis looks a bit for away.
I am shite a decisions

We've stayed in airbnb in Paris not a problem. It is legal there.

pinkspeakers · 26/08/2024 16:27

Personally I always much prefer a small apartment with a bit of a kitchen and living space over a hotel room when travelling as a family, or for stays of more than a couple of nights. Never understand why people pay more for a hotel.

Fivefootoffun · 26/08/2024 16:30

I see it’s already been mentioned but we use Accor and their 2 bedded rooms have been great for us - been to Paris a few times using them and been great!

Bright family apartment, near Canal - Apartments for Rent in Paris, Île-de-France, France - Airbnb
for example

Also search on booking.com for apartments. can be cheaper than airbnb

bigoldnamechange · 26/08/2024 16:40

Hi op, I've stayed in this gorgeous hotel with husband and teenage daughter before, it's perfect for you! In the very cool area near canal St Martin, walking distance from Gare du Nord, it's chic, stylish and has two bedroom suites and mini apartments. And great breakfasts. And it's superb value for Paris!

There is no simple answer to "Is Airbnb OK there?". 99% of people will ignore your comings and goings. But if you arrive a day after some Airbnb guests from hell who were partying until 5am, the people downstairs might have a comment or two.

Also, the place that you rent may or may not be legally declared as being for tourist use with the town hall (which is required in Paris), and the owner's liability insurance may or may not be valid in case you accidentally leave the bath running and ruin the downstairs flat, or set fire to the place and destroy the whole building. It might be a good idea to check all that before you confirm your booking, perhaps asking for proof in the form of certificates.

I don't know about the specifics for Paris, but in Barcelona a large percentage of the Airbnb rentals are "hosted" by criminal gangs, who are not averse to paying off the municipal departments whose job it is to enforce the regulations. All is great until there's a problem of any kind.

Do you have your heart set on being near the Gare du Nord? It's not exactly the nicest neighbourhood.

This Ibis Styles does rooms which it describes as "nearby". You'd have to book one adult and one child to each room though (how you sleep is up to you, but you have to have an adult per room to book it)

If you're willing to go further out and commute in on the metro, there are plenty of cheaper Ibis hotels, or even F1 hotels if you want properly cheap.

Join the Accor loyalty scheme (it's free) and you get ~10% discount.

ibis Styles Paris Gare de l'Est Magenta

Near the Gare de l'Est, the ibis Styles Paris Gare de l'Est Magenta offers a tattoo-themed stay. Prepare yourself for the experience!

Thanks all for the input, family vote went airbnb and we have requested one that the girls have a room each and it’s in the oberkampf area.
Mumsnet a font of wisdom as always

I see you've already made a decision OP, but for future/others just throwing in another vote for Accor hotels for adjoining rooms set up for families. We've used Accor for this in other countries too, great set up and often very reasonable prices.
