I'm looking at changing holiday dates because of a new jobs holiday period, we have Avios free BA flights and Kuala Lumpur has come up as a possibility.
It would be last week of March/first week April ( to straddle holiday leave year Grin).
We would like to do a bit of exploring- particularly like wildlife, nature and historical sights. It would just be two adults as DS is off to university now.
Ideally don't want to hire a car.
Has anyone been ? Any thoughts please?

I seem to remember that you can’t take your cat on the monorail in KL. Something else to consider…

Edited

We have a dog so perhaps that's ok! But hadn't really planned to bring him.
We do however love monorails after that Simpsons episode many years ago, so there's another reason to go.

I went to peninsular Malaysia and stooped off at KL and Penang. Found it fairly easy to navigate around using trains for longer distances and local buses. There were different classes of carriage available, some with air conditioning.

Penang is famous for fantastic food and I have to say I agreed with the hype. We also visited Kek Lok Si temple, which was beautiful and well worth the hot walk up to it.

I hope you have a fantastic time, whatever itenaray you choose.

I lived in Malaysia for five years and loved it, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful holiday. In Peninsular Malaysia I'd recommend Georgetown, Penang for culture, food and architecture - try to stay in a heritage hotel like Muntri Mews. ChinaHouse cafe / gallery is recommended too. Bon Ton resort on Langkawi is highly recommended - we did a couple of wildlife/ bird watching tours from here. You stay in beautiful renovated kampong (village) buildings. I love the East coast - traditional Malay culture. Tanjung Jara resort is lovely. Check the monsoon season though. The islands around Tioman - Sibu (sea gypsy resort) etc - for snorkeling and swimming. Tiger rock on Pangkor island.

I loved Malaysia, spent a month there. We did KL, Malacca, Cameron Highlands and Perhentian Islands. Combo of overnight trains, busses, very easy to get around.

Oh, I stayed in Muntri Mews! Lovely.

If you go to Georgetown OP you have to go to Chulia Street for Hainan Chicken Rice.
