Sharm El Sheikh recommendations - villas?

We are thinking of going to Sharm El Sheikh next year with our three children (aged 8, 7 and 1). I just don't see how we would cope cooped up in a hotel room together for a week, and so I've been trying (without success so far) to find somewhere with villas, or at least apartments, so that we have our own space. Does anyone have any recommendations? We just want somewhere reasonably quiet and family friendly.

and you’d self cater?

pretty much the only reason to go here is for the plush and very reasonably priced 5 star a inc

coffeenootropics · 21/08/2024 16:32

and please avoid summer
will be so so hot

beachmum1 · 21/08/2024 16:43

Book 2 interconnecting rooms? It's one of the few places I'm not sure self catering would be nice

Sharm is not like most European resorts.

It was pretty much purpose built as mostly AI hotels and many guests don't leave the hotels (except for the diving).

The "town" is basically accommodation for the workers at the hotels plus the people who work in the boats/diving instructors etc.

It's not a town in the usual sense of the word.

You can get hotels in the town which some people who are diving use as they're cheap and really for people who only want to dive and will be asleep if not diving,

I agree with @coffeenootropics that it’s an AI resort. Some AI hotels offer a 2 bedroom family suite/room.

Why do you want to go to Sharm in the height of summer? I have been to Hurghada in March and enjoyed it but there was nothing outside the luxury hotel complex apart from a couple of restaurants (which it turned out were linked with the hotel)

It will be in the 40s so far too hot for young kids, especially a baby. I think somewhere more family friendly and with more moderate temperatures would be a wiser choice.

Crazykefir · 21/08/2024 17:37

Have you been there before? It's good for snorkeling and scuba diving that's it.
I dont know if they even have normal supermarkets???

gingercat02 · 21/08/2024 17:55

Please don't take your kids to Sharm, we dived there and it was amazing but outside the very lovely hotels it's awful.

jackstini · 21/08/2024 18:08

Booking.com do villas there

There is a big Carrefour supermarket too that delivers

jackstini · 21/08/2024 18:11

Although agree you would not really leave the villa much apart from going to the beach, but there are restaurants to eat out at

Hard Rock Cafe if you want a recognised chain!

Three of us (me, my DSis and DM) stayed at Xperience Kiroseiz Parkland in Sharm last November and we had an executive suite which had two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a living room with kitchenette. It’s a family resort but the food was awful and we hated it. We’ve been to Sharm many times and it was the worst resort we’ve been to, but it did have suitable AI accomodation so I’m sure other resorts will.
The weather when we went was around 26 degrees so perfect in terms of using the pools and with warm evenings too. The summer months would be unbearably hot and I’m with others, don’t take your kids in between May and September.
Naama Bay is the local town and you’ll be constantly harassed.

LaLaLouella · 21/08/2024 18:35

Is there a particular reason you want to go there? It seems an odd choice for a family with really young kids.

If you want warm weather and family friendly facilities there are lots of much, much nicer places in Europe....

chickpea1982 · 21/08/2024 19:15

Thanks for the responses so far - it's been really helpful. Yes, maybe going in summer wasn't such a good idea! The main reason we wanted to go was for the snorkelling, but we can't spend the whole time going that so we'd need other forms of entertainment too. Perhaps I need to rethink this. Any suggestions for other places in Europe which are family friendly and have good snorkelling?

I'm also open to all inclusive. Our last family holiday (2 years ago now) was to Gran Canaria, where we stayed in an all inclusive resort which had lots of little villas. We had our own space, but also access to the facilities and obviously the food at mealtimes. It was great, so something like that would be fantastic.

I really appreciate the comments, thank you so much.

Have a look at resorts in Malta - some friends just had a holiday snorkelling near Melliaha and loved it x
