How much spending money for Florida?

Dolly0 · 20/08/2024 18:30

Going to Florida for 11 nights in October. Staying at Universal but have tickets for there and Disney, so planning on going to both.

No car hire, so need to factor in Uber/taxi costs. No dining plans either.

2 adults and 2 children.

What would you aim to take? Thanks Smile

I'd probably take around £2500 -£3000

What age are your DC and how much do they eat? If, like me, you have two teen boys I would budget $300-400 per day just for food if you'll be eating out three meals a day with drinks. If you're able to do a supermarket shop and have breakfast at your apartment and take water bottles and snacks into the parks with you then that will save you a fair bit, but food in the parks is very expensive. The menus all tend to be online nowadays, so you can check prices in advance.

Taxis/Ubers will depend on how far from the park you are, so you'll have to look prices up online. The touristy areas of the US are very expensive nowadays. We just got back and the prices are insane. Even drinks and snacks in petrol station shops in the touristy areas are eye-watering.

Just back from 2 weeks in Florida with DH and 12 and 16 year old
we spent approx 2.5k but hired a car so didn’t need to factor in Uber
main spend was food but we were able to make breakfast in the apartment. Also took snacks out for the day
the parks were cheaper then I expected for food and drinks…coffee was $3.79 in Disney
the refill soft drink cups are well worth doing…-$18 to buy one but can refill as many times as you want all day and then ‘reactivate the cup’ for $9 on subsequent days

very happy to answer any questions!
you’ll have an amazing time!

About 3500£ with a credit card for emergencies

BeaRF75 · 20/08/2024 22:27

These questions are always pointless because it depends what you want to do, eat etc. Everyone has different tastes and ideas.
And surely to goodness you wouldn't take thousands of dollars in cash?! What's wrong with just having a couple of credit cards available?

molly5678 · 20/08/2024 22:29

@BeaRF75 I don’t agree that asking for an idea of spends in order to budget is pointless and the OP didn’t say they would take cash.

@Dolly0 ask away!

Have you already made your dining reservations? If so, it’s pretty easy to work out food costs as prices are online. Then price up a few of the counter service menus so you know general price of lunch and dinner. Go on Uber and get the cost to the parks in advance. And factor some money for gifts

Ohfuckwhatdoidonow · 20/08/2024 22:42

Yeah I'd say $3000-$3500.
Things have really shot up in price over the past couple of years.
Walmart for snacks and water will help keep hold of some of your money...

Wishing you the best time

You can buy all day food / drink packages for the parks in advance. We did that on the three days we were in the parks.

RampantIvy · 20/08/2024 23:00

Don't forget to take taxes and tips into account.

PurpleJustice · 20/08/2024 23:17

We have just got back; 2 adults & 2 primary school children. Spent around £2700 over two weeks.

We found the food portions ridiculous and very rarely needed 3 meals a day. I can't imagine spending $400 a day on food!

Main meals cost us around $100, with the more expensive restaurants (buffets/ characters) around $240 including tips. Quick service meals were $40 ish.

So it really depends on what you want to do.
