Netherlands shocked at the price already. Is this normal

Weve booked our August summer holiday for next year for duinrell for 4nights and then an air b+b for 4 nightsa but more up north of Netherlands
Weve never stayed in an air BnB before or duinrell so no idea whether we got a good price

Including both accommodations- duinrell is a 3 bed comfort bungalow and the air BnB is a 3bed bungalow and 2 ferry's there and back with a car and cabins its came in at £2300 I'm just a bit shocked that's obviously not including any money we spend on food . Last year we did a Cruise for a week for that all inclusive!
Please someone talk some sense into me

How the hell did you get an AI cruise in August for 2300 last year?

What you're paying for next year seems reasonable to me, I think you got a bargain previously.

Almostwelsh · 20/08/2024 11:21

Admittedly I have teens who I have to pay for as adults. I guess 2 adults plus 2 children may work out cheaper.

Pootles34 · 20/08/2024 11:31

Overnight ferries are really expensive unfortunately! I don't think that's a bad price including ferry etc.

lavenderlou · 20/08/2024 11:38

Overnight ferries are pricey. Duinrell has a lot of facilities akin to Center Parks so is expensive compared to other sites. We did 4 nights in the Netherlands at Easter in a chalet with ferry to Dunkirk for under £500. Obviously will be more in the summer but there are cheaper alternatives such as ferry from Dover and driving and staying in a less fancy site.

longdistanceclaraclara · 20/08/2024 11:39

How on earth did you get a cruise for that price?!

CandidHedgehog · 20/08/2024 11:40

8 days all in 3 bed accommodation plus ferry travel with a car at £2,300 sounds reasonable.

I assume you need 3 bedrooms for people going with you, in which case, cheaper accommodation would be a false economy.

CuteOrangeElephant · 20/08/2024 11:42

It's the ferry that is ridiculously expensive. You're better off taking the channel tunnel, we paid 300 euros for that vs 900 euros for the ferry. Downside of course is that it's a much longer drive!

Staunchlystarling · 20/08/2024 11:42

How many people are going? I assume you’re booking 3 beds for a reason?

Tpeake · 20/08/2024 14:44

Sorry my mistake the cruise was in the Easter holidays . And there's 4 of us we could have gone 2 bed but with 2 children it's just a lot easier having their own bedrooms

3 bed accommodation indicates at least 2 ads and 2 ch?

So actually that's a really good price at a little under £600 per head for travel and accommodation.

Ferries seem to cost much more nowadays than they use to as well.

If you wanted an AI for 4 (min) people in august including flights you would be looking at much more than that!

Well that’s a luxury you’re paying for. So for 750 each you’re all having your own bedrooms, cabins, taking the car, ferries etc, in peak holiday season.

you could have done it much cheaper had you chose.

JaninaDuszejko · 20/08/2024 15:34

3 bedrooms in an expensive area in Europe will easily cost £2K all by itself and the ferry is expensive. The Netherlands is not a cheap holiday option. If you want cheaper the children can share which will help a bit.

bravotango · 20/08/2024 15:42

Sounds like the accomodation wasn't the cheapest option available - we did 9 days in the Netherlands this summer and it was £1400 for accommodation and ferry.

Thereisnoname · 20/08/2024 15:50

Sounds about right, that type is never as cheap as a package.
At Duinrell now and haven't had tried everything as arrived yesterday and its raining now but its got lots to do, rides look good and pool is fabulous. Seems much better value than an English CP
We spent 2 days in Amsterdam first and would definitely reccomend the Anne Frank House ( my kids are 9 and 11, didn't know much about her before but were really moved by it) and rhe science museum was great lots of hands on stuff.
Wouldn't bother with the Adam lookout though, which was reccomeded to us.

mathanxiety · 20/08/2024 19:07

Why did you opt for a bedroom each for the kids?

NCfor24 · 20/08/2024 19:12

We're just off for 9 nights in Netherlands, 2 adults and 3 children so 3 bed accommodation. I think we've paid about £2500 for our holiday including Eurotunnel so yours sounds right. We have one Eurocamp site and one "nicer" holiday site so not dissimilar to you OP.

ETA - we've booked a one week cruise for next summer which is £4500 for the 5 of us so you got a great deal!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 20/08/2024 19:48

We go to the Netherlands quite often for summer holidays (we're only an hour from Hull docks, and I used to live there). Dutch schools start to go back about now, the last week of August is often cheaper.

Ferry + car + cabin is pricy though!

Invisimamma · 20/08/2024 19:56

We're going to Duinrell for the October holiday, obviously October will be a bit cheaper than August. 2 adults and 14 and 10 year olds. Here's our costs/budget.

3 bed premium + accommodation (we also added towels and bedding) £1000
Flights KLM £500
Taxi transfers £160
Airport parking £40
Food + activities £700 (the theme park and swimming is included, we'll probably do a day in Amsterdam)

= £2400 total holiday cost

Roughly the same cost as an inclusive for us, maybe slightly less.

I'm not sure if I've got the spending money quite right, we'll do a mix of eating out and supermarket.

Ionacat · 20/08/2024 20:06

We’re at Duinrell too at the moment and it is pricey. Lovely but not cheap! Food is a bit more expensive and eating out is definitely more expensive. We booked through Eurocamp last year and it’s worked out around £1500 including the overnight ferry from Harwich.
With Duinrell just a warning - they’re changing their swimming access again for next summer - you won’t be able to access the Tikibad or the outside pool for free in a comfort duingalow - you’ll pay the discounted rate same as the camping and lodge tents. (Theme park is still free.)
