Turin, Modena or Milan ?

Im looking for places to visit after Rome and would be interested in views on these options. Wed be travelling by train. Ive seen very little of Italy so options are open, but Ive heard that Milan isn’t very attractive as a tourist destination. Would love to hear peoples views. We like wandering around, but not interested in going into churches ! Don’t need to be entertained but I do like nice surroundings e.g. Old Town Rhodes etc so not interested in a modern city vibe.

I'd go to Lake Como!

Train from Milan takes an hour, but go to Varenna not Como!

I did enjoy Milan despite everyone telling me it was horrible, but I made sure to stay in the best part (which suited us!) and I would recommend the rooftop of the Duomo, even if you aren't bothered by churches

Bergamo
Como
Padua
Bologna

Choose one or two. All fab but I found Bologna brilliant, mad kind of vibe, food out of this world, and lots to see and do. A close second is the totally underrated small city of Padua (Padova). An absolutely charming place, I loved it. Como town on the lake, and Bergamo of course have their own charms. Decisions, decisions!

Isn't Italy a great place to visit? Enjoy.

It's a working lived in city rather than anything much to look at. Filthy and graffiti up the sides of most buildings including churches, claustrophobic and closed in.

Just looked back at my photos. Outside of the Royal Palace area I barely took photos of anything. All looks the same. That's pretty much it.

I think that looks nice! It does mostly look like that, but I don't think that's a bad thing. There are also big piazzas, lovely shops and touristy things to look at.

Yeah but walking between taller buildings and collonades covered in graffiti gets old really fast

One warning about Bergamo, don't let the station area put you off. I know all station areas can be grim but head as close as you can to Città Alta for accommodation. Somewhere down near the funicular would be good.

We’re just back from Italy, did Vérona - we felt we did everything we wanted in a day and a bit. The lakes and onto Milan.

I was a bit taken aback at Milan at first, we didn’t stay in the best area, full of graffiti , but we had a fabulous time there, make sure you go to the Navigli district and the duomo was stunning.

we flew back from Bergamo and thought how lovely it looked. Already planning our next trip.
