Going to Tenerife (think about 4 half hours) and trying to think of ideas to keep them busy and occupied on the plane. 3 and half yr old prob not too bad and will like excitement of plane but 22 month old will need some serious distraction - grateful for any tips/ideas!

We take lots of stickers which occupy our daughter for up to an hour and then move onto a few favourite books. The best tip though is to take masses of snacks and feed them into submission...

Mini aquadraw mats, wrapped sweets take some time to open and good for ears on plane. Toy plane kept my ds occupied for about 2 hrs. Keep a few toys a secret in case of emergencies

Take variety packs of cereal. its mess, its food, its a novelty - it was a winner on a 12hr flight to california, but I was grateful not to be the one hoovering the seats when we left

a portable dvd player is good. Also bring loads of food as they don't get well fed under age of 2

Ummm Pirutin? Thats what the Mcganns did isn't it?

Those mini drawing things - like aquadraw but different - wiht a sort of stick and doodle pad that can be used over and over again. Oh dear I'm not making myself very clear, but they used to be lifesavers for us on long car journeys

my Dh works for a cargo airline I could send you some child sized boxes and they could travel in the cargo hold.... I think they'd even be room for some toys in the box too...

terribletwosome I will be having a similar experience in August when we fly to Turkey.... 18 months and 33 months. I'm going to pack LOTS of stickers and books to stick them in.... pencil case of crayons and then a couple of new books. For DD2 she will probably want what DD1 has but will pack her a pack of playing cards (she loves trying to hold them all in one hand and passing them to you etc), also a portable dvd player with her favourite nursery rhyme dvd in so she can boogie in the aisle!

on our last flight (lonmg haul), we apcked all the usual bits on the way out there and it was a bit of a nightmare. They expected constant entertainement, and kept looking for the next thing. Then there were fights over who had the most crayons and where the missing ones had gone.
On the way back we checked their little bags in, and didn't provide anything and they read the inflight magazine then fell asleep. Food is always a good idea, but I think sometimes it's best to treat it like a long car journey where you do have to sit with your belt on quietly.
