Sorry to mention Christmas...
Thinking of going away for a week
No idea where
Can you please share your experiences?

Skiing works for our family. A friend went on a singles walking trip to amalfi in Italy.

Citygirlrurallife · 11/08/2024 16:41

I know a lot of families who have gone or are going to Thailand

Forgottenmyphone · 11/08/2024 16:42

Zell am See in Austria is so festive

Octavia64 · 11/08/2024 16:44

We have done both ski-ing and hot country.

Don't do ski-inv unless you really want to ski anyway.

Caribbean is nice.

We always go to the canaries. Winter sunshine is wonderful for the soul!

Summervibes24 · 11/08/2024 16:55

If you want sun & pool weather then I would recommend the Canaries or if you just want sunny but my not be hot enough for pool but nice enough to be outside for morning coffee, lunch, sundowners etc then I would recommend Spain (Stiges, Nerga) or Portugal (Carveiro or the Algrave).

The Canaries will be more expensive as the weather is better and the flights are longer.

Sorry shoukd have said no ice or snow please!

Is canaries really warm enough?

My eldest daughter is going to Thailand for 10 days with her boyfriend and his family over Christmas. I admit that I am really quite envious. 😃

I go to Estepona in Southern Spain every year for a couple of weeks over Christmas and New Year. Weather has always been very pleasant and the days are so much longer there at that time of year. Blue skies are so wonderful for the spirit!

It suits my partner and me down to the ground, we don't have kids and are definitely not Christmas people. Everything is open in the run up to and on Christmas Day and New Year, restaurants, shops, public transport all open/operate Christmas Day, it is just like any other day. The only evidence of Christmas is in the bars frequented by British people who live there. The Spanish celebrate with dinner at home on Christmas Eve and the big day is 6th of January which is the children's day.

TBH even if the weather wasn't perfect it wouldn't matter. Just being away from dreary grey dark at four UK is a blessing. I fully intend never to spend Christmas at home again, unless illness stops me!

We spent Christmas in the Florida Keys a few years ago - it was lovely - Christmas Day spent in the pool wearing Santa hats, while a steel band played Christmas carols. The weather was hot - about 30 degrees - then we flew to New York where it was minus 14 ! It was quite a shock to the system.

We have done the Canaries many times and it has always been sunny but not overly hot, so ideal.

Portfun24 · 11/08/2024 20:18

We went to Tenerife on Xmas Eve last year and had a great time. The weather was great, need a heated pool though. We had a villa in Los Christianos and went to Las Americas alot and spent Xmas day at Siam Park. It was good for a change but now I've down it once, I wouldn't do it again.

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 11/08/2024 20:21

We are going to Sri Lanka. My Dad died recently and we want a very different Christmas

sleepwouldbenice · 12/08/2024 13:14
