Can I take citerazine into Spain?

I've tried googling but can't find a definitive answer. DD takes a daily antihistamine for feather and fur and sting allergies. She'll need enough for 1 a day for 2 weeks plus spares as she's 9 and sometimes drops the tablet. They're not prescribed, just advised by paediatrics. Will I be able to take them in or will I have to source them there?

Cheers in advance

Shouldn't be a problem at all. I took a whole load of antihistamines/ painkillers / vitamins and no one batted an eyelid or asked anything. I split them between hand luggage and checked in cases, just in case!

It’s fine, just keep them in the blister packs so they can be easily identified.

No one will mind. I take a wide variety of prescription and non prescription medications with me abroad and never had any issues so far. I usually avoid taking anything with codeine in as it's an opiate but that's just a precaution. Antihistamines should be fine.

We took a full first aid kit with paracetamol, ibuprofen, various antihistamines and creams and other lotions and potions. They won't care about that sort of over the counter medication. If they were opiates there might be more of an issue

Of course you can. I’ve travelled with it to Spain before, they sell a very similar antihistamine there too, in an emergency. You will be fine.

longdistanceclaraclara · 10/08/2024 18:56

Yes of course.

Fab, thank you!

You can take any medicine that you need, not least because Spanish customs open essentially zero suitcases of holidaymakers.

Since Brexit there has been this idea that Europe has become some kind of ultra-strict police state with strict customs rules, but apart from that set-up with the ham sandwich on day one ("Welcome to the Brexit, sir"), which was basically done for a laugh by a few Dutch customs officers taking the rules to the NNNNth degree.

If by any chance (and it is homeopathic) you were stopped with a small quantity of pills that for some reason are not sold in the EU, the absolute worst thing that would happen is they would take it off you. To get fined or deported or jailed you need to have class A drugs. And again, this won't happen because cetirizina is a standard component of over-the-counter allergy remedies in Spain.

Reactine cetirizina/pseudoefedrina 5mg/120mg 14 tablets

OVERVIEW: A medicinal product that acts as an anti-allergic and nasal decongestant. REACTINE Cetirizine/Pseudoephedrine is indicated for the relief of nasal and ocular symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis when accompanied by nasal congestion, in a...

Over the counter medication is easy to get in Spain anyway should you need any more or become ill while you are over there. The only thing to be wary of is that it's some times slightly different to UK stuff and maybe a slightly stronger dose. You do need to go to a pharmacy though, rather than pick up in the supermarket .
