Anyone done anything that involved all
of the above on holiday?! Now our children are older we can holiday ourselves a bit or do what we want and then ask if they’d like to join us rather than do a child/teen centric holiday. Bliss!

Thanks!

The Cyclades in late spring/early summer would be perfect! Lots of options, and easy to plan yourself. Mount Zas (childhood playground of Zeus) on Naxos has the highest mountain of the Cyclades and the views are incredible!

I’ve added some links as a starting point.

Hiking on Greece's Cycladic islands

Cicerone author and walking guide Gilly Cameron-Cooper has watched Greece's Cycladic islands emerge as a charming but challenging hiking destination

The GR221 through Mallorca is brilliant. The trail is so varied that you can see so many different landscapes: including woodlands with natural springs, barren mountain tops, orange groves and terraced hillsides.
the state run refuges along the way are brilliant, you book in advance. They are spaced along the route at very achievable distances. There are towns and villages along the way, but also sections where you won’t see a car for several days.

April is a good time to do it.

I’ve walked the whole route, and sections with my kids.

Thanks both! They sound great. Naxos is my favourite island!

Madeira has great hikes (with stunning views) and if you stay in Funchal, many of them will be accessible by public transport. Lots of culture in Funchal too.

Look up ATG walking holidays- can’t wait to do those again when the kids leave home

Alpine regions - France/Austria would be good.

We are currently in the Austrian alps and have been doing lots of hiking on the mountains. Cable car up and then various trails/routes back down to follow.
Also done a couple of 'attractions' - largest suspension bridge in Europe was a favourite.

Had time to chill as well with pool and boat rides.

The Pagarine Route from the south of France to the Italian hills is an ancient salt trading route that has recently been developed.

There's also the Camino de Santiago, in whole or in part, if hiking is your cup of tea.

A friend recently returned from hiking in the Pyrennees and can't stop talking about her fantastic experience.

Cinque Terre is lovely and you can hike between the villages.
