So we have our new passports all sorted. We won’t be going anbroad until next year but did wonder if we could pop over to France, stay the night and come home. I know we can but would like some recommendations for booking online or any advice to make it special? I am looking but not doing a very good job!

I'm not quite what you're asking? Have you never been abroad and want to make the France trip special? What's your budget? Will you drive?

I'd probably start with looking at Le Touquet.

You could get the Eurostar to Paris if you live in the SE. Or look at where your regional airports fly to. Anywhere within 2 /3 flight would be ok if you could get a morning flight out and an evening flight back.

Just looking to book on the channel/ferry to pop over for the day, stay the night and come home the next day. Just hoping someone can recommend some websites. Dh is sort of book a return ticket and see what happens. I like to plan.

Eurostar website has the option of different destinations and you can book just train or train plus hotel.

Singleandproud · 09/08/2024 21:35

What do you want todo in France and where are you travelling from. SE that's an easy trip, alright trek from anywhere else though.

What quality of hotel do you want / budget? Are you happy with a Premier Inn equivalent or something nicer.

If heading to Paris I'd just go via the Eurostar website and book travel and hotel together. Make it simple if you haven't been abroad in a while.

Can you stay for more than a night, even just an extra one would make a big difference otherwise you are going to just have two travel days and if anything gets delayed you'll be heading back home before you have been ay where.

Have dinner and crash at a hotel. Equivalent to a premier inn. We’ve not been abroad in a couple of years, kids wanted to go this year but we decided we couldn’t do it. But a random night away is doable.

If I was paying a fair amount for travel
I would probably want to stay at least 2 or 3 nights.

Newhaven Dieppe can be nice and good value. Dieppe is a lovely old town, if you stay in dieppe you could be foot passengers. Ferries from Portsmouth can also be good, can travel overnight for eg

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 09/08/2024 21:58

The travel is a large part of the expense if you're paying for that at least have 2/3 nights!

welshweasel · 09/08/2024 22:11

If you're just going to go for food and stay in a cheap hotel then why bother with the expense of travelling? Spend the money on a nicer hotel in the UK. Or look to see where you can get cheap flights to for a weekend and get an airbnb.

Sometimeswinning · 09/08/2024 23:00

After reading a few responses. I feel I need to explain! I work in a school. I only have weekends left to give. Saturday to Sunday is it. I don’t want to use the money to go somewhere nice in England. We’re doing that.

My kids would love a ferry/channel journey. A different country, dinner in France and a night in a cheap hotel with a breakfast the next day.

My husband and I needed to renew our passports and we sorted them quicker than I thought we would 🤷‍♀️

A couple of posters have been really helpful though! I’ve got the travel sorted, just finding a hotel close by so we’re not driving too much.
