Hello!

Please can I ask for your advice on the best things to do near/in Chester? We are visiting for the weekend and going to to the zoo. Considering BeWilderwood as well but wondered if there are any other hidden gems? I have a 6 year old and a 3 year old so on the lookout for little activities/walks/parks/places to eat.

Thanks so much! X

The zoo is a whole day thing, so how much more time do you have in Chester? Are you staying in the centre? Will you have a car?

Yes hoping to spend the whole day there and will have another 2/3 days to fill.
We are staying on the outskirts and we do have a car 😃

Thank you x

For a 6 year old and 3 year old, I'd recommend a visit to the amphitheatre and Roman Gardens - both free and mine would spend ages just running around!

Grosvenor Park and try to get up on the walls - I like the section from the river up to the back of the cathedral and Northgate.

Hickory's for a meal is always a hit with the kids.

We went a couple of years ago.

Definitely go to the riverside. Walk along there-stalls and sometimes entertainment and places to eat. Take a boat tour. They're pretty cheap-under £25 for a family for a half hour trip, though there are longer ones.

There is a discounted shopping centre, though it's a bit dismal.

The architecture is lovely.

All great ideas so far. If you’re staying on the Wirral side, there’s a maize maze at Brimstage, which has a nice cafe, craft shops and ice cream. There’s a small beach with red rocks and rock pools right at the tip of the peninsula at Hoylake, which is lovely.

I also like the open top bus tour for little ones. I found it really interesting, the traffic isn't too bad that you get stuck (my memory of the London bus tours) and it's a small enough city for it not to take too long.

Crocky Trail would be great at those ages, has to be seen to be believed but great fun and can easily fill 3 or 4 hours (if not more!).
