Games/activities for evenings abroad

Heading to Spain in few weeks. What are your favourite family games or activities (2 adults, kids age 5&7) for evenings. We like to have a drink and watch the entertainment but we’re normally there a bit early. We take a pack of cards and UNO but anyone have any other suggestions

Heads up app for your phone. It's like charades. If a big enough bag take some paper and pens to play boy/girl/fruit/flower etc. can also use the paper to play holiday bingo - write a list of things to spot in the evening and the first to call it gets a point.

bananagrams, you can adapt it for your younger child.

Consequences, but the picture version (each person draws a head, folder the paper give to the next person. Then the body, repeat, the legs, repeat, shoes and then open them up to see the full picture. Great fun.

Happy families card game.

small box of magic tricks and all try and learn a trick.

my kids also like tossing a coin and rolling two dice and trying to get double 6. You can’t do it every night but may while away 30 mins!!

I want to avoid screens if I can but we’ll have pads of paper and pens so will look those up 👍 Actually paper games is a good shout, hangman, o and x etc

Dobble
Iq puzzler pro (great challenge for one)
Monopoly deal
Space team (a collaborative game - you win or lose as a team)
Colour brain
We also play the a-z game of things you can see and Pictionary (on a piece of paper) of things you can see.

Monkeybutt1 · 07/08/2024 07:16

We take
Monopoly deal
Mantis
Exploding kittens
And a deck of cards for snap/go fish/solitaire

BendingSpoons · 07/08/2024 07:23

My kids like the game where you answer the previous question e.g.
Who's your teacher? (Pass)
Who's your best friend? Mrs Smith
What did you eat for breakfast? Daniel
Cue much laughter!

They also like Code Breaker (I used to call it Mastermind) where you put 4 coloured pegs in to make a code for the other person to guess. You can make it easier for the child by telling them which peg is correct each time.

Categories game. Everyone gets a letter (you can go round the alphabet or choose one for your neighbour or all have the same one) and take it in turns to choose a category. Categories are things like forms of transport/toys/animals/shiny things/books/scary things/slimy things etc etc.

Everyone has to come up with something in that category starting with their letter. You all admire each others choices/console those who got 'q'. And then do a new round with a new category and new letters.

It's good for when you're waiting for food to turn up as there's no stuff and no particular end to reach.

everycowandagain · 07/08/2024 08:03

OK play is great and very portable

Lovetotravel123 · 07/08/2024 08:05

Exploding Kittens and The World Game

Merro · 07/08/2024 11:21

Mine were that age before screens were a thing. We had a full repotoire of word games, plus Uno.
20 questions
I went to market and bought...or a variation of that such as " I went to the beach and took....."
Alphabet game

Realist2022 · 07/08/2024 11:52

We are away at the moment and have bananagrams, OK Play (one of my favourites) Sky Jo which is a great game made by (I think) the uno people and then a couple of packs of cards.

CindyBirdsong · 07/08/2024 11:55

We take a pack of cards for chase the ace and knock out whist, also good for solitaire and pairs when a bit bored. Uno and Old Maid.
You don't need the Old Maid cards you can play with a normal pack of cards.

yoshiblue · 07/08/2024 12:19

Take a look at Forbidden Island, it's a good coop game you can play together.

Agree with UNO, Monopoly Deal. Quirkle and Sushi Go are both good, but maybe in a year or two with your youngest.

I remember that from when I was a kid! Good idea (although my old brain may not get past ‘D’ 😂)

Taco, cat, goat, pizza is good - and is just a pack of cards sized box. You say out the list in order (one at a time) whilst turning a card over and adding to the pile in the middle and if the picture on the card matches the word you have said then first one with hand on the pile gets all cards on the pile. Lower is the one to lose their cards first.
Maybe not best if in a restaurant, but good for in accommodation!

DarkDarkNight · 08/08/2024 21:20

My son likes Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza, it’s a card game a little bit like snap where you turn the cards over and say ‘taco, cat….’ Etc. out loud. When the card matches what has been said you have to slap your hands on the cards and the last person has to take the cards.

My son’s reaction times re much faster than mine so it’s a good one for kids.

DarkDarkNight · 08/08/2024 21:21

Snap with Topbird29 😂

Topbird29 · 08/08/2024 21:22

Travel connect 4 - although the bits are tiny!

Topbird29 · 08/08/2024 21:23

@DarkDarkNight - they also do taco, hat, cake, gift, pizza 😀

legalseagull · 08/08/2024 21:29

We're on holiday now and are playing banana grams, uno and pass the pigs. Ok Play (similar to connect four) is great too
