Seeing a doctor in France

We're in France for a fortnight, got another 8 days to go. Had COVID just before travelling, and I've been feeling progressively worse for a few days.

I suspect it's a chest infection, and my asthma isn't fully responding to my inhalers.

At home I'd just go to the GP. I've been to the chemist who said I needed to call a doctor, but a) my french is rubbish and b) apparently the local one's secretary is on holiday. (Well it is August!)

We're in a rural location, nearest bigger town is 30 minutes drive.

What's the deal with french healthcare? Do they have something similar to walk in centres?

In the past, in different parts of France, I've used an 'urgence' for DH's allergic reaction to bites, an A&E for a broken foot and last year an ambulance for my DD who fell down stairs. But this is a part of France away from big towns.

You could try Doctolib.
Search for ''médecin généraliste' in / near your French postcode. You can see availability and book online.

Not all GPs are on Doctolib so if there aren't any appointments there it doesn't mean you wouldn't find one by approaching the GPs in nearby towns directly.

Pharmacies should know who the 'medecin de garde' is, the one who is on duty while the local doctor is not working.

Good luck

Can you call the medical helpline number on your travel insurance? They should be able to arrange a suitable appointment for you.

Try doctolib as advised. Failing that drive to the next nearest médecin.

If you are really stuck then join Ladies in France Together and someone in your area will better advise you and probably help you.

An update. I used doctorsa, got an online appointment with a doctor in the UK, who issued me with a prescription in the EU.

Medication now collected and starting to feel better
