AIBU to wish that people would say what their budget is meant to cover?

I've lost track of the number of threads where the OP says something like "Looking to get away somewhere warm, budget is £3,000", and we are expected to psychically work out whether that is meant to include flights, and/or a meal plan (board basis), and/or spending money, and (especially) for how many nights.

Even stranger is when people reply with suggestions, often of quite high-end places, without knowing that information. £3,000 might get you a fortnight self-catering off-season, but only a couple of nights at the Ikos in August.

I appreciate that this is just ranting into the void, as the people who are going to post such questions in the future won't be reading this, but it is very frustrating!

Surely it means this is what we have for the holiday all in.
Nobody is going to say budget 3k or whatever and then say but we have another 2k for flights. Occasionally you might have someone say budget + spending money.
A budget is how much you have to spend in total on whatever the budget is for.

I've seen some where it was just for the accommodation, because they were planning to self-cater (another slightly vague phrase: does it mean cook every night, or go to 21 restaurants in a week?).

But really it's the duration that's the most important. 30 years ago I would have guessed 14 days but I think 7 or 10 is quite common even for a summer holiday now.

Self-cater I totally agree with you.
To me that means out for breakfast, fruit for lunch and meal out every day.
To others that definitely means go to the supermarket and do a normal weekly shop.

I think it's safe to assume that the budget includes everything or at least flights/accommodation/food.

Duration is more important, but if it's not mentioned I would assume they're flexible.
