I'm going away in September and the mosquitoes eat me alive every single time. It becomes very uncomfortable and I can't sit outside in the evening. I can hear the mozzies zoning in on me when im trying to sleep. Last time I had about 20 bites on my body. I still have the scars!

I have tried a few sprays/roll ons now but each one hasn't done the job. Please can you recommend your fail safe mozzie deterrents? Also for the apartment, do plug in deterrents really work? I've found they don't but maybe I'm using one that's ineffective.

Thank you.

I’ve found Smidge is effective and can be put on face which is good. Definitely hydrocortisone cream to stop any bites itching.

I feel my list is never ending as I haven't thought about face friendly ( not sure I can risk Deet!) and now thinking roll on jungle formula is a great idea too as I also hadn't thought about application immediately on arrival.

The really expensive part is I need to go on another holiday to get the money's worth on all the stuff I have bought !

Definitely 50% DEET. I lived in Southeast China for a few years and I used OFF! Deep Woods which is an American brand, I used to buy it in bulk from TaoBao (Chinese Amazon type site). Had to wear it year round as it never got cold enough for the fuckers to die, even in the winter.

I really do sympathise. I never touch my bites let alone scratch them but I always get massive welts even with antihistamines and have had cellulitis from mozzie bites 6 times. Twice I ended up hospitalised and needing IV antibiotics (happened in the UK as well so you aren't immune here) so I'm honestly a bit terrified of them now.

Apparently why certain people get bitten and others don't is that mosquitos prefer certain compounds that some people excrete through their skin to others. It's genetic. I really do sympathise, they are arseholes and that horrible whiney noise at night is annoying as anything.
