*SEATS
If we book last minute, will we struggle to get two seats together on the plane, or will this not impact.

Thanks for your thoughts and experiences.

It could impact but if tge holiday is available to book then seats should be too

Barnabyby · 03/08/2024 19:16

Well yes it might, but how important is it? Are you travelling with a child? Is it long haul? I've been separate from my DH before and it's been bliss 😂.

DuesToTheDirt · 03/08/2024 20:18

Yes you might struggle. If it's a small child I'd want seats together, otherwise does it matter?

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 03/08/2024 20:19

Whether it matters or not depends on who you’re travelling with.
If it was just DH and I I might positively embrace it as a good thing 😂

Bjorkdidit · 03/08/2024 21:15

We often book very late, ie between 3 and 30 days before departure.

We get seats together maybe 70/80% of the time but it's airline, destination and time of year dependent. But seeing as I read or sleep on planes and DP watches things or listens to music its immaterial.

ReluctantSwimMum · 03/08/2024 21:18

Depends on the airline! When can you check-in? Some let you check in 30 days beforehand, some 24 hours.

But I wouldn't see it as a deal breaker for a good deal.

LIZS · 03/08/2024 21:33

Agree, some airlines have 24/48 hour checkin times where you can see the allocated seats and maybe adjust.

PandorasTin · 03/08/2024 22:13

Children under a certain age (differs by airline) are sat with an adult. Sat with legally includes a seat across an aisle and the seat immediately infront or behind.
Most airlines will endeavor to get you next to tour child literally but legally above is what is required.

2nadulta...tough shit. You might get lucky but most seating algorithms on online check in is set up to make you pay for then luxury. This late in the day availability may simply not be there evening you pay.
Take a good book or a magazine just in case.would be my advice.

redbluegreenyellowbrown · 03/08/2024 22:20

Do a dummy booking.... get as far as choosing your seats and see whats available and then you will know.

I booked us on an easy jet flight for tomorrow, last week......... loads of seats, i checked before....
I then checked in immediatly, refused to pay for seats and let easyjet choose for me knowing they would sit is together..... which they did.... in the upfront £17.99 seats. (not bad when we only paid £50 per seat!)

I never pay for seats, but always choose to regularly check seats available on the plane.... (IF the seats together were running out, at that point i WOULD pay to sit together)... I then check in as soon as check in opens and let the airlines choose my seats, and so long as there are seats together, they will sit us together. (not sure if ryan air do, but i've not yet flown with ryan air)

DuesToTheDirt · 03/08/2024 23:22

I've had the experience of 4 of us being scattered randomly about the aeroplane. Well, I don't think it was random, as 2 of us were each sat next to 2 of another group, so it did seem like they had deliberately split up groups, in the hope we'd pay up next teime.

AdiLane · 04/08/2024 14:57

Thanks so much. I'll try the dummy booking to check.

No kids - it is me that hates flying! 🫣

How annoying

I literally only flew (again with easyjet) 2 weeks ago...
Also used this with tactic jet2 and tui.... we fly at least once most years and have never been split up.... at the point I've checked in there have been always LOADS of free seats

(I know my aunt / uncle / cousins frequently fly with ryanair and are almost always split up (but they don't care where they sit so it's not an issue to them))

reluctantbrit · 04/08/2024 16:10

We fly BA a lot and they don't open seat selection for free until 24hr prior to departure.
We never had issues that we are not seated together.

With EasyJet - we book in advance as I prefer certain seats.

EmmaInScotland · 30/12/2024 20:50

We usually book in advance & generally aim for back & aisle & window. Quite often there’s no one between us, when there is we just let them have aisle. They’re happy & it’s cost us no more than 2 together. Win-win
