Arriving in France late Sunday evening - anything open?

We are arriving at Montpellier airport at 9pm tomorrow, collecting a car and driving about an hour (west) to our rental, which is quite rural.

I am struggling to find somewhere we'll be able to pick up essentials for Sunday evening, Monday morning before we can get to a supermarket.

It looks like we might need to head into the city to find a convenience store.

Does anyone know?

Only been to northern France recently but there seemed to be vending machines for fresh pizza and sometimes baguettes in villages and supermarket car parks - bit random we thought but saw dozens of the things 🤣 if this is also a thing across the country it may be just what you need (and a bit of a novelty!)

My boys had a vending pizza last year and said it was disgusting. Never again… unless they were starving. Perhaps it could be an option…. 🤢

Arrived!
Flight delayed.
Boys fed at MacDonalds and all well.
Carrefour in the morning.

It's very warm. The rooms have ceiling fans 🪭

Great! Have a lovely holiday.

We arrived at Nice yesterday then had a 2.5 hour journey to holiday home, arriving 8pm. We opted for homemade sandwiches at the airport (to save money), snacks in the plane. A McDonald's during the car journey. Then this morning we've a couple of packets of biscuits to tide us over until we can get to the hypermarket (30 minutes away 😡).

Its a bit rubbish but DH is French and we live in France (were in the UK for part of our holiday) so we're all well-versed in the limited opening hours 😊

I still can't get my head round the fact that ordinary shops (clothes, shoes etc) close at 5.30/6pm in the UK. In France it's 7 or 8pm - much more practical for after work!

I too have hollow legged 10 and 12 year olds but I will admit that we all overindulged in our favourite UK food (I will defend some of our delicious food to anyone and everyone - homemade roast with yorkshire pudding? My boys dream about it all year) so it did make the trip easier for us.

Hope you have a lovely time in the south. We ve woken up to gorgeous weather here

Your plane may be delayed plus picking up the car may be a faff. I'd get as much as you can carry from the airport in the UK and/or look for a McDonald's near Montpellier (needs must sometimes).

Hooray, as I predicted 😁. Envious of your holiday now, OP. Montpellier itself is fabulous.

Lovely house, but am baffled as to why people choose real wood kitchen counters, especially in a place they're going to rent.
No hot things, nothing that might stain, not cutting (fair), and spills wiped straight away.

I've told the boys to not do anything unless they have a chop board or coaster.

What is the attraction of installing something you can't use freely in a kitchen?

Definitely don't drip raw egg white onto it either.

Glad you got there OK and got fed. Enjoy your holiday!

I love a wooden worktop. Stayed in a rental recently which had them, and it made me pine (sorry) for my old beautiful wooden worktops

Thank you for the addition of ‘trim baller’ to my French vocabulary! I’m in France at the moment, and we had a complex two-car journey from Paris (with lots of luggage because half of us are subsequently going on a further holiday), so it was most useful.

You're welcome! it does sound a little galère.
