It will be my birthday and was considering taking the baby to Ambleside/Grasmere for two nights on my own. Love this area as I used to visit years ago with the dog. Would walk Ambleside to Grasmere and back one of the days, and probably do a boat trip and national trust stuff the other day. Is this a mad idea? Am I going to need to buy a child carrier thing and a lot of faff to make it practical? Any insight appreciated!

I'm sure you'll be made most welcome in Ambleside or Grasmere and if you look on some of the local Facebook pages or sell and seek I'm sure you could find someone who would lend you what you need or somethings are free anyway .Hope you enjoy our lively part of the country .

I would contact tourist board as you need to be certain the walk is doable with a Baby / pram etc.
Keswick is also a great base
Other than that just crack on and enjoy it.

The Grasmere to ambleside walk always has parents walking with children in carriers. If you get tired there is a direct bus between both. So not a mad idea at all.

Go for it. It’ll be lovely. But yes, a backpack carrier will really help. Look on fb market place local to you (I sold mine on there).

I don't know the particular area but we had a back carrier we used until DD was 3.5 and it was worth it's money.

We had one where the carrier also had a storage compartment, big enough for a small picnic and all the essentials you need on a day out, I can't remember the branch, sorry.
We bought it new but sold it for 1/2 the price on ebay, so there should be second-hand options available. Ours was from 9 months onwards and used a lot.

I loved the freedom it gave us, not thinking if we could use the pram and if DD was fussy, just let her walk a bit.

Thanks, all! I think I'll go for it - found a carrier on Gumtree for a great price so that's made my mind up! 😊
