Hi there I've booked a holiday for next may and have never been on a plane before no fault of my own just never been able to afford it. Naw I've booked I'm getting nervous I know it's 9 months away but feeling very nervous don't know what to expect. Any tips of flying anxiety and what about the airport any tips of what I need to do as I ain't got a clue anything be appreciated 👍

I've just come back through Bristol Airport. It's cost us over £90 to park in the Silver Zone for a week (our lift had to cancel).
If you are coming from south Bristol, Bath, Saltford or Keynsham I would suggest catching the Airdecker bus.

We flew from there a few weeks ago. There are displays which tell you which check-ins to use. Easyjet and Tui are really easy to find as there are so many desks. I'm not sure of Jet2 as we were flying KLM (desk1) so didn't see any of the further desks.

Security seemed a lot quicker than last time we flew from there. A real downside of Bristol is places to eat, they're all really expensive and pub grub type places.

There are bins to throw away stuff not allowed and to empty any water out. Allegedly there are refill fountain in the main terminal but I didn't find one.

Is it long haul or short haul? What airline?
Short haul arrive at airport 2 hours before, long haul arrive at airport just over 3 hours before. note* if you’re parking there, allow extra time to do that as that can honestly be the biggest faff of the whole thing.

Find your airline’s check-in desk, go through security and relax! Have something to eat and just chill, there are boards everywhere with gate numbers which are really easy to understand.

Once on the plane, there’s really nothing to it. You sit down, listen to a safety talk, and you then take off. I love the feeling of take off, and once you’re in the air you won’t really “feel” anything unless maybe some turbulence which is totally safe and nothing to worry about.

You could watch some videos on YouTube explaining the safety of flying to put your mind at ease. It really is incredibly safe, reframe it in your mind as fun and exciting rather than something to fear. Enjoy!

If you are travelling in the UK make sure to get a European Healthcard (not sure what is called after Brexit).

If the holiday is booked take out travel Insurance now. This is important if something happens in between now and when you are meant to go and you cannot go.

If you are doing extreme sports etc make sure they are covered in your policy as some don't cover everything and check any restrictions. Years and Years ago my Insurance Policy did not cover me if I had an accident/ go hurt in a certain venue in the Canaries.

It’s a GHIC now. https://www.nhs.uk/using-the-nhs/healthcare-abroad/apply-for-a-free-uk-global-health-insurance-card-ghic/
