I would like to visit Toronto followed by a trip to the Rockies and maybe a stay in Muskoka. Could anyone recommend how to do this effectively? I have relatives in Toronto and have been to Muskoka forty years ago!

i’ve been to Toronto twice with young adults who also happen to be my children, and stayed downtown..

It was fine.

We did the Rockies first….flew into Calgary….stayed overnight…..then hired a car ….1 night in Canmore……4 nights in Banff ( sunshine village, lake Louise, moraine lake plus other stuff….then a 4 hour drive to Jasper stopping off at a glacier and some water falls….then 3 nights in Jasper…..then drove to edmonton…..1 night….we weren’t there long but did see the Alberta legislative building and have a free tour which I loved…..downtown Edmonton is a bit rough and ready but we went to the whyte Avenue area which was good….then a flight to Toronto….stayed downtown for 2 nights….loved it….did 1 night trip to see Niagra falls, Ontario on the lake and the area ….. whilst in Toronto went to the st Lawrence market…..the distillery area……caught the ferry over to Toronto islands ……as well as all the us all stuff like Dundas sq, Toronto sign, the dog fountain ( loved this! )…..get booking!

I have family in the Toronto area, but have not been to Canada in ages. Based on what I have heard recently, Muskoka is super expensive now but still beautiful. Some people go to other parts of cottage country that are not as expensive but still gorgeous.

I also understand that the area around the Eatons Centre is a bit run down and scary at night. The people I know who went recently stayed in the west end of downtown and loved it.

What time of year were you thinking? We stayed in Huntsville which is near Muskoka in June and were eaten alive by black flies and mosquitoes, which was a shame because it’s beautiful. I’d go again, but later in the season.

You can fly from Toronto to Calgary and then drive to the Rockies. We stayed over in an extraordinary traditional hotel in Cochrane after we landed. The Rockyview Hotel. Great food and our room was lovely. Rained the whole time unfortunately.

We drove the Icefields Parkway up to Jasper but I don’t know when the town is likely to re-open for business after the recent fires. It’s stunning, with so many places to stop and take in the views. I recommend Lake Minnewanka near Banff. It’s incredibly beautiful and not as busy as the more popular lakes.
