Belize/Costa Rica - how rainy is the rainy season?

Daft question, but.

Just back from this year's summer adventure and staving off the blues by planning the next. Animal-mad kids so Belize and Costa Rica on the shortlist, but July would be rainy season.

Has anyone been in July? I really don't mind a bit of rain, even a torrential downpour would be fun in the jungle. But not ones that lasted all day, every day, and affected activities. Long way to travel to be stuck inside playing board games!

Not been there but have been to Guatemala, Nicaragua and Honduras at that time of year. Was very much a sudden thunderstorm that you were really glad of because of the heat/humidity. Siesta was always a pretty good idea.

Central America is great!!

3 weeks in Costa Rica at the start of UK summer holidays last year.
2 days with a decent amount of rain, one spent white water rafting, one hiking.
Some spectacular overnight storms.
So much to see, you'll love it.
Be prepared, it's not cheap!

Where have you just been to?

@House4DS Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Beyond magnificent. I am soooooo sad!

Just wondering what you have planned? We are thinking about something similar but I am going round in circles worrying about driving and cost and where to go!!

Flying via Atlanta (overnight on 4th July which might be fun!), in and out of Belize City, then we're doing Caye Caulker - snorkelling, manatees - then Lamanai for wildlife and Mayan ruins, then Placencia for flopping, all in July. I'd wanted to put San Ignacio in as well for caving and more ruins and jungle vibe but, having had too much travelling on our last holiday, decided we needed some days where there was literally nothing booked or planned so we could just chill/be spontaneous. I may have had some family pressure on this front too! We/they can always go back. Going with Stubborn Mule was cheaper than booking it all independently. Absolute Belize were good too. Managed to get travel insurance with Post Office that covers weather events. Enjoy planning!
