3 night getaway end of December for a 40th?

Ideas please for 2 adults and 2 kids between 5-9? Return can be on NYE i.e. no NY specific eve or day celbs needed as it is for a milestone birthday.

Unfortunately budget unlikely to be more than a grand.

Do not want caravan holidays.... needs to be a hotel. All inclusive 3 nights abroad would be ace somewhere less cold than UK but if not somewhere "nice" in UK works too...

Ideas?

If £1000 is the total budget (ie not per person) then I think you will struggle with finding anything that involves travelling outside the UK. Flights for 4 people are going to cost £400 on average, could be a
lot more around Christmas. Maybe you could find a hotel at £100 per night per room (assume you will need 2 rooms) but it’s not going to be luxurious.

Looking on TUI for "a few nights", AI from any London airport around 28th Dec with 3 days flexibility....

the cheapest is coming in about £1600 for your family, for 3 nights in Antalya. Benidorm is £1800.

Interestingly a week AI in Antalya is £1850 ish for the same sorts of leaving dates.

£1000 in total, or £1000 per person?

Ramside hall is £780 for bed and breakfast

https://www.ramsidehallhotel.co.uk

statement of the obvious, it will cost you more than £200 for meals for the 4 of you for 3 nights.

Is it posh hotel you want or location? For example. You could get a travelodge in Edinburgh / Newcastle / Glasgow / Birmingham etc etc and do the Christmas markets and it would be much cheaper.

We go away in Europe for NYE on 28th every year- flights at least £240 each

You won't get 'abroad' unless you mean £1k each - even if you come back NYE

Pinkypinkyplonk · 24/07/2024 17:06

London!
The lights and city are fab at Christmas time, there are shows suitable for all ages, loads of free stuff going on for kids, you’ll have a ball.

Kitkat1523 · 24/07/2024 18:04

You not going abroad for that money….it’s new year ….flights will not be cheap….maybe £1k each for abroad with AL …..if U.K. do you want city or country?

TeamGeriatric · 24/07/2024 18:45

We went to Gdansk between Christmas and New Year last year, flights for 4 people from Leeds cost £435 (with seat reservations and a single checked bag) and the hotel for 4 nights (Hampton by Hilton) was £547, but that's at your budget without anyone eating, doing any sightseeing or taking Uber to/from the airport. You could probably find a slightly cheaper hotel and if you can find flights that mean you only need 3 nights in a hotel you might get your budget closer to £1000, but unlikely to be under that. Anywhere in Western Europe is going to cost more.

@TeamGeriatric I loved Gdańsk when we went!

longdistanceclaraclara · 24/07/2024 20:53

I think you'll struggle on that budget.

froidIci · 24/07/2024 22:57

Most useful thank you! Budget could be more but frankly? I don't want to do flights with smalls in the cold - the whole year has seen so much travel for my work and to see parents halfway across the world...

I guess then other ideas for a 40th in twixtmas which don't involve a whole pile of chaos jn the cold?

If it's more of a family celebration - what about somewhere like Centre Parcs?

Agree with others that you are unlikely to get flights and accommodation anywhere that's warm with a short flight in between Christmas and NY. We've spent that much just on flights to Malaga.

ButtSurgery · 25/07/2024 17:10

Crank the heating up at home 😂

In all seriousness, would you hire a hot tub for a day/night and treat it as a special event? Get in party food for you all, cocktails and mocktails, and just have a silly day with the kids then a nice evening with the DH?

Or plan a series of events with the budget - tickets to a show / panto, cinema, meals out, day trips to somewhere like a theme park (are they open in December?).

Or look at the Eurostar? Is that in budget?

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 25/07/2024 17:11

I was going to suggest center parcs too but haven't checked the prices. The Winter Wonderland will still be on the
