Flying 33 weeks?

Just wondering on others' opinions for this.

I'm 30 this year and was supposed to be going on a holiday to celebrate with parents siblings partner and daughter.

It turns out though I fell pregnant and am due 2 weeks before my birthday.

My parents and partner have instead offered to split the cost of a 4 night break abroad for us as a couple before the chaos of 2 under 2 begins.

The only time available I will be either 32-33 weeks pregnant, which is in 8 weeks time.

I'm fit and well and was to the end of the last pregnancy, just unsure if it's unreasonable to go!

(An aside, we desperately want to take our daughter too but I won't be able to chase an 18mo around the pool and don't feel fair on my partner to do that alone, so unless my parents want to come and share that work it's not really feasible..)

Will an airline let you fly, will you get insurance at your stage of pregnancy?

MultiplaLight · 22/07/2024 07:32

I wouldn't. Mostly because if you did go into labour or have complications abroad, it's an absolute faff. Or have a baby at 33 weeks and need to stay there until you can get home.

Way too risky for me at that point. What if baby was born and needed NICU in a foreign country?

I flew at 31 weeks with placenta praevia so I wouldn't think anything of flying at 33 weeks if your pregnancy is going well and you're considered low risk. I would make sure your travel insurance is rock solid though in case anything happens.

I'd also consider where you are going - obviously you want to go somewhere where you could access good care that works for you. Me and DH avoided a babymoon in the middle east for example because I didn't want the risk of something happenig and him not being allowed to be with me. I was confident the medical care would be good enough but didn't think I'd cope with the misogyny.

No I wouldn’t. Spend the money on a lovely U.K. hotel instead.

Make sure your travel insurance covers you and the baby. You are also likely to need a fit to fly letter from your doctor.
I've flown at that stage in two different pregnancies and all was fine, but only short haul flights within Europe.
