Anyone been here lately and if so what did you think of it?

It sounds perfect for a day out with an 8 yr old but I was just wondering if it's as good as it's cracked up to be?

It's pants. They could do so much more with it. There was a bit where you watched a hologram, then got to make your own chocolate flavour, which was only some liquid chocolate and choose your sweet to go in it. Then you can take a walk through the factory, but no one was working, and there's a small museum, and a large seconds shop. And then a walk through a jungle bit, IIRC with history of cacao. It was quite a drive for us, and not worth it IMHO.

Oh that's disappointing. I've wanted to go for ages too.

BrownSuga · 12/04/2008 19:06

Well we went about 18mths ago, may have changed since then, but I wouldn't go back to find out. Maybe someone that's been more recently will be along soon.

I went last year but at the time I lived quite close. I'd have been really pissed off if I'd had to make a big journey to get there.

I also wouldn't have been happy if I'd paid full price for a ticket, but I used my clubcard deals so didn't cost much.

It's worth going if you live nearby and get free tickets, otherwise don't bother.

How about if we went up for a few days - ie long weekend? Is there much else around the area to do?

janeite · 12/04/2008 19:21

I live v near Cadbury World. Unless it's changed hugely since I last went, I would say don't bother. it's massively expensive, very crowded and doesn't take very long to go round. If your children are young enough to "con" though, you could take them to the shop and the little adventure playground there, which you can get nto without buying tickets, then tell them they've "been to cadbury World".

There is a very nice little park across the road from Cadbury's and about two miles down the road is the Birmingham Nature Centre, which is lovely and costs pennie - I think you pay about £1.20 per adult and nothing for children. Next to that is Cannon Hill Park, which has a boating lake, ducks to feed etc.

we used to live near
years ago
the verdict then was odnt bother

my mate used ot find it funny to go in to the shop and ask for a mars bar

NaughtyNigel · 12/04/2008 19:31

We quite enjoyed it. The DDs liked the chocolate stuff anyway.
not a whole day out thoughh. nice for a morning

We went last year when we were in the area and the DC (8 & 5) enjoyed it. Depends what your expectations are though, 'cos it's not (designed to be) a theme park as such, it's really just the Cadbury Story brought to life.

If you are looking for brash plastic rides and noisy excitement then it's not for you, but if you & the kids like 'finding out' about stuff then it's a good way to spend a few hours.
DS1 loved the quiz through the jungle which explains the growing of the cocoa bean etc, and the Victorian England shops. DS2 liked seeing the factory packing line. We all sat and watched the old adverts and laughed a lot.
I thought it was quite interesting and educational really.
But I agree it's best to pay with Tesco codes, or go on eBay and find a discount voucher to make it cost-effective.

mummabubbalova · 12/04/2008 20:01

It's a good day out I think. Been there about 4 times and always enjoyed it. They take take tesco vouchers too so we usually get in free!

AbbeyA · 12/04/2008 20:17

We went a few years ago and enjoyed it.

fivecandles · 12/04/2008 22:33

We liked it. The dds still talk about it over a year since we went. There's a playground too which is quite nice. Went to W. Midlands safari park too which is nearby.
