Virgin voyage cruises - are we too old?

As the title.

My DH has always said that he doesn’t want to go on a cruise. I would like to try one. As a compromise, he has agreed to go on a mini cruise. I’m just looking at the options. I was drawn to the virgin voyage cruise as it has a lot more restaurants and the ships are fairly new but I’m wavering as I don’t know if we might feel out of place. I’m in my 50’s, DH in his 60’s.
Is it just for the young and cool 😉?

Not at all. In fact the cruise companies are always trying to appeal to younger people, but the core market is precisely your age. We have been on 5 or 6 cruises (but not with Virgin), in the cheap (MSC/Aida), low-middle (Norwegian), high-middle (Royal Caribbean), and low-end-of-luxury (Azamara) price categories. Honestly they were all pretty good, in relation to what we were paying.

DP loves them, I used to think I would hate them but now I'm reasonably keen. Still not my favourite holiday but it's nowhere near as "ugh" as I had expected.

Something we have found the really distinguishes a more expensive cruise from a cheaper one is, to our surprise, the buffet. On the low-end-of-luxury cruise the buffet was actually our favourite place to eat. We got friendly with the head chef of the buffet, who was a Brit, and he told us that his budget was very good indeed, so he could afford to put on excellent food. He had been with the line for 10 years and had no plans to move. On cheaper cruises you can sometimes see some corners being cut at the buffet.

Thanks @samarrange . Useful info. My Dh really isn’t keen but everyone I know, who has been on a cruise, has really loved it.

I have been in a virgin cruise and we are both over 60 it was great and I would highly recommend as the ship is beautiful and it's so different to a normal cruising holiday
I would say at least half the passengers were our age

My Mum and Dad are 70 and they only go on virgin cruises as they are far more casual. You definitely won’t be too old!

We've done a Virgin cruise and are going on another one this year. Late fifties. We were a bit apprehensive about being too old and this wasn't helped by the welcome drinks - hosted by a drag queen, very loud music , 20sonethings in small bikinis round the pool! However the ship is really well designed and we found a great chill out bar with full double bed sun loungers and an older vibe and just avoided the main pool area where the younger crowd hung out. The food on Virgin is fantastic, a cut above cheaper cruise lines in my opinion. Entertainment can be a bit out there but again there were plenty of places where we could just listen to a live band and chill. I'd definitely recommend!

I go on a 2 week cruise holiday every year. I'm in my 60's and not very mobile. It works for us because instead of us having to get around to different places the ship takes us there to a different place every day. The accommodation is good. It gets tidied and cleaned every day for you. There are always several different restaurants you can eat at. The entertainment is excellent. If you go I'd recommend booking immediately you get on board because there are limited spaces. I'd say well over half of people are over 55. They cater well for older people. I've never been on a Virgin cruise. I've done P&O, Norwegian line (my favourite) several times, MSC and Costa.

Great feedback! Thank you. I’ve just got to sell it to my DH now. Thanks

Virgin isn't the same as Virgin Voyage. VV is more party boat style. If that's your thing then go for it.

Azamara are also quite casual. No formal evenings. I love them, been on 4 cruises with them and another next year..
