Beijing in Spring? Air quality...

I'm secretly planning a trip for my parents who are in their 70s. They've never been further than Greece and really want to see the Great Wall of China. My only concern is - Beijing air quality in the spring months and the possibility of a dust storm because one of my parents has mild COPD.

I've seen that dust storms are becoming more frequent and can leave people housebound for days at a time. In addition to this, Beijing doesn't have good air at the best of times https://www.iqair.com/china/beijing

Not set on going in Spring (was really just for the added bonus of the gardens).

For those that live / travel / familiar with Beijing do you have any recommendations for months of travel? Should I avoid the spring months?

Many thanks !!!

I went in August and the air quality was pretty bad tbh. What measures can be taken to ensure that your parents don’t suffer too much with the COPD and poor air quality? I don’t think it’s possible to say that any one time of year will be sure to be better, sadly.

If you are only going to Beijing for a week or two, then the air quality wont make any detrimental effect.
If you were living there for months or years, then it could affect them.

March, April, after that Beijing gets hot.
We are here now, for all of September.
It had been 37 deg. a few times this week, so quite warm.

As a side note, we brought my then 78 year old mum for a month, all over China, including Beijing.
Her is 89 now.
