Ok I don't want to moan about the UK weather as there are plenty of threads about that but I need to get some sun, we have a UK break booked for the weekend but weather is dire.

I'm restricted by school holidays and worse so as DH has to return to work in a college on 26th Aug. We don't have a lot of spare money but I need to get some sun and sit by a pool. Is there anywhere we can go for a bit of sun and heat on a ferry trip that won't cost the earth? Could even look at Oct half term if it will be sunny and warm.

I've looked at France near Calais but I'm wary that their weather won't be much better unless we go south, which time and money won't allow for.

Does it need to be a ferry trip? There are very cheap flights if you're willing to consider that. Unfortunately you're not likely to get guaranteed sun on a ferry, as you won't be able to get far enough south!

There's the eurocamp site le bien assise at Guînes near Calais. Quite a lot to see WW2 beaches and fild of the cloth of gold as well as thé Azincourt museum. Booking direct will bé cheaper than booking through eurocamp.

There are ferries to northern Spain? Not cheap though so depends if you’re choosing ferry rather than plane for budget reasons.

Northern Spain won’t be sunny enough in Oct half term but should be in summer.

whats your budget for how many people ?

I think you are looking for the Channel Islands.

The Vendee is your best bet for sun vs length of journey in France.

There's still some sailings left on the overnight crossings in early August but not on weekends, the advantage is you arrive 7am ready to go down to your destination, kids love the overnight I find but it's more money as longer, though saves petrol.

A siblu site in the Vendee. Ferry from Plymouth to Roscoff then head down. It's worth going further south than Brittany ( which often ends up with similar if slightly warmer weather to Cornwall! )

The vendée is not guaranteed good weather. We had a 2 week holiday that rained nearly every day a few years ago! Apparently it's better in July than August so if you can get away as soon as holidays start that would be better. Canaries in October should still be nice but I've not been, probably nicer in may Half term.

What about somewhere inland but with a lake/beach nearby? The French do loads of them with water sports etc. Burgundy is on the same side of France as the tunnel or Dover Calais ferry.

To get reliably good weather in France you need to go south. We had a static just south of La Rochelle and we had some amazing summers but some really shit ones too.

Can you fly? I'd consider the Balearics - not in October though.
